  • FaceTime will now support Android and other devices from a browser

(Most people I know don't realize that screen sharing from iMessage is even possible--not all that surprising, given that selecting it requires clicking the recipient's name to get the drop-down to access the Share Screen options).
I am most people. I had no idea. Thanks.
To clarify, it's only iMessages on the Mac that (currently) has the option to screen share.

It appears that in iOS 15, FaceTime SharePlay will enable screen sharing on iOS devices (as well as macOS), but not sure if it will include the ability to allow someone else to control your screen (or for you to control others) on iOS. I hope it does, because it would make those family tech support calls sooo much easier it I could control their iPhone or iPad.

I can't believe the Weather app STILL didn't have radar, alert notifications, or anything useful other than "do I need a jacket/umbrella?"  It really shows that the people designing it live in temperate California.  lol
On the contrary, it seems pretty obvious they’re slowly but surely wrapping in multiple features from Dark Sky, this time adding the barometric pressure map, and at a glance looked like they were further expanding on the precipitation graphs etc. I need to take a closer look but if rain alerts and such aren’t included in this round, I’d be surprised if they weren’t in the queue. Meanwhile I just keep Dark Sky installed still. :)
I noticed that precipitation graph during the keynote. I was wondering when Dark Sky features would be rolled into the Weather app.

    Finally, screen sharing in FaceTime.

I always found it odd that iMessages, a primarily text oriented app, had a screen sharing feature, while FaceTime, a primarily visually oriented app did not.

  • M1X Mac mini will be thinner, use iMac's magnetic power connector says leaker

I'm not an electrician, but a magnetic power connector like the one on the new iMac can exist only when the power flowing is DC not 110v AC. I think 110v AC is probably just too dangerous. In theory it might be possible to design an "AC MagSafe" but I doubt anyone wants to deal with the liability especially when it comes to selling it to the unwashed masses. Perhaps in an industrial setting you could get away with it.
Magnetically attached AC power cords have been used for quite while on deep fryers. Very clunky, but they exist:
Excellent point, thanks. As I predicted, this is an industrial setting, where it makes sense.

That photo is pretty scary, with the exposed 110v connectors. There could be a hidden relay to disable the 110v power if it's not snapped in place, but it doesn't look big enough to be hiding that.
Actually, it is used on a consumer device. I updated my post accordingly. I used to own a Fry Baby, and it had one. The 110V contacts are recessed and separated, so I never worried about them. The standard Edison type cord mounted receptacle has exposed contacts too--a little less scary because they are recessed a bit deeper, but still...
