  • Tim Cook really wants Apple Glass to become a reality

What would be cool is it it was a couple of tiny clip ons that project onto the inside of the lens for any set of glasses. Recharge like AirPods.

  • Apple hampered its Siri ambitions by penny-pinching

No, Siri has been going down hill for a long time - who can say what "vision" Apple has left - just more distractions.
Apple is mainly doing products for 1 feature per year while keeping tiers making products mediocre by waiting or by tier - often by both. That is why we can't get OLED on Mac or anything beyond 60 Hz unless "Pro". We get more buttons, lenses or transistors just to make things look fresh.

Same on iOS. It is bloatware caused by annual updates with features being piled on top. Thousands of settings instead of going deep and trying to figure out "what are people are trying to do".

Not that the hardware is bad. MBA is a very nice computer but the main difference between now and 19 years ago is battery life. User experience hasn't changed much.
I know what you mean the Focus is on supply chain efficiency to maximise margins. So any hardware change is incremental and margin preserving. And the emphasis is ending up on hardware as that is of most relevance to supply chain efficiency.   Or we get attempts at new breakthrough products that are so over engineered they fail to launch (Apple Car) or they are priced out of any potential market (Vision Pro).

but even incremental they changes pile up over time. Mrs Entropy just upgraded from a 2015 13 inch MBA to an M4 15 inch MBA. The diff is impressive, even though it essentially doing the same thing.

I love this 1997 quote from Jobs talking to staff:
What happened at Apple, to be honest, over the years was the goal used to be to make the best computers in the world. And that was goal one. Goal two, we got from Hewlett-Packard actually which was "we have to make a profit". Because if we don't make a profit we can't do goal one. So, yeah, I mean we enjoyed making a profit, but the purpose of making a profit was so we can make the best computers in the world. Along the way somewhere those two got reversed. The goal is to make a lot of money and well, if we have to make some good computers well ok we'll do that... 'cause we can make a lot of money doing that. And, it's very subtle. It's very subtle at first, but it turns out it's everything. That one little subtle flip... takes 5 years to see it, but that one little subtle flip in 5 years means everything.

Re, latest figures say Meta Ray-Ban has sold over 2 million units. It is not however, clear if that was to users, or to major spectacle retailers they are being sold through and they are mostly in storerooms.

Me thinks I would have actually seen one by now if it actually sold that many.

I am not convinced. Apart from being really cool technology, how many people will buy it especially at Apple prices? I suppose over time it may end up being a screen for the phone,  but in the foreseeable future it can only be just a wireless AR/HUD for apps like maps, including that room to go to for a meeting etc.  but at least for the first few years of availability the hardware (weight and battery life) and software just won’t be there.
And that is before you resolve the issues of prescriptions , and more so progressive lenses, and that specs for years have tried to be fashion accessories. TBH I would love to throw my glasses out and never have to wear them again. To walk into a shop and buy sunglasses if I need to off the shelf for pennies. But otherwise, no glasses.

Like the Vision Pro, really cool tech that doesn’t have a large market. and that is even because inevitably wearing these down the street you get bombarded with AR ads as you walk past every shop.

  • Apple TV+'s Mythic Quest to end with revised fourth season finale

A feature of American sitcoms is they keep them going until they just die a sad death with increasingly lame writing and tired actors.
Proper, planned story arc before the cameras are first turned on to start filming. Then finish it, resist calls from fans for a new season.

Then do something completely different with fresh ideas.

look a k-dramas. That’s what they do. Well, apart from the problem of endless variations of Cinderella.
