  • No Apple Tax for environmental efforts applied to users, says Lisa Jackson

All arguments about what is the true externalised cost of greenhouse gas emissions aside, let’s focus on the claim it doesn’t cost anything. To say that these initiatives do not raise the cost of production is straight out lying.

There is no getting around that. No hoping it cannot be, no waving a magic wand. These initiatives do cost money. And it is impossible to argue those costs aren’t passed on given Apple’s margins compared with the rest of the industry.

That an Apple spokesman would make such a claim offends me. And Lisa Jackson can’t do a Jedi mind trick.

  • Apple expects strong Mac growth but wearable deceleration in the holiday quarter

I know Apple is going for the upsell by only having 8GB RAM and 256GB storage in the base model with no possibility of aftermarket upgrade, but  it looks very much like in the pursuit of margins sales overall have gotten in a bad place.

perhaps sales might be goosed a bit if the base models were perceived as having a bit more value.

it seems Tim Apple has forgotten that not all Apple’s friends are Larry Ellison.

  • A lament for the Touch Bar

    Graeme000 said:
I still use and enjoy my MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar. Although admittedly, the primary thing I use the Touch Bar for is to scrub forward and skip YouTube ads.
It does make scrubbing through any videos really easy, but that’s really my main use for it. It’s definitely too inconsistent to know when any other programs use it or not.
I think scrolling or scrubbing is what most people use touchscreen laptops for too.

at the end of the day it was an expensive and impractical application that was never adopted widely by developers. That the most popular Mac’s (MBAs) and desktop keyboards didn’t have it sealed its fate,

  • New Apple Silicon has arrived with M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips

Now the M3 Pro memory bandwidth is 150GB/s vs M2 Pro 200GB/s, M3 Max is 300 or 400GB/s vs M2 Max 400GB/s for all favor.
The main interest when benchmarks come out will be M2 Pro vs M3 Pro (well, apart from 13th gen intel). Noting of any increase from M2 Pro to  M3 Pro seemed to be missing a mention in the keynote.

    So…
Will the new dynamic caching technology overcome the reduced bandwidth and fewer performance cores in the M3 Pro? Or has Apple tweaked its product line positioning to UPSELL TO THE MAX!
