I doubt it is meaningfully better for the environment, but at least they aren’t killing sweet old clementine.
The truth is the synthetic cases and bands are cheaper to manufacture and deliver consistency. Margins of course will be impressive.

it is a market segmentation strategy. It is designed to increase margins.
