  • Apple TV+ cancels 'High Desert' after only one season

Look. I would actually prefer it if there is not a second or third season for a show. Just tell a complete story in the first season. If that takes 8, 12, 16 or 24 shows so be it. The one story.

the trouble with second, third and fourth seasons etc is that usually the writers can’t think of a story. Or they get new writers in. Never ends well.

    it’s what the Koreans do.

  • Samsung's lower-priced Studio Display competitor finally launching on July 3 in South Kore...

How many Korean won is a nanotexture studio display @ USD$1899 plus tax compared with the Samsung (including VAT) I wonder?
Apparently ₩2,090,000 for the  shiny one, ₩2,490,000 for the matte version.  That is ₩790,000 or USD$607 plus tax.

As well as the better price,  I would get the Samsung for the height adjustable stand (amazing that apple thinks it doesn’t have to include that) and the streaming app unless Apple substantially and hugely dropped its price.

    Good luck with that.

  • Academy squeezing out Apple TV+ movies with new Oscar rules

What chaps my hide is when "patriot" factions attempt to restrict my right to vote. Or my eligibility to vote by mail ballot.

I am in another country where the right to the franchise is protected by enrolment, verification when voting, including preventing serial voting. I  find the whole process in the US shambolic and ripe for abuse, almost like it is designed that way.
Of course you should have to prove who you are and registered to vote before so doing.  An absolute no brainer. Mail in voting happens a lot in my country, but must be accompanied by evidence of who voted and marked off the roll to prevent voting more than once. Which of course requires up to date, electronic electoral rolls. Before every major election there is a campaign to get everyone registered and their records on the roll up to date a few weeks before the voting day to ensure the rolls are as up to date as possible come voting day. If you aren’t, well tough. You aren’t voting. Make sure you are registered for next time.
The franchise is precious. And only those eligible should have it.

  • Facebook shutters news rather than pay up under new Canadian law

It's Meta's right to refuse to provide services to any or all countries. It's also Apple's right, and I hope this encourages Apple to refuse to withdraw services and products from regions with unacceptable rules. For example, now that the EU has won the USB-C requirement, the EU is suddenly pushing for all smartphones to have removable batteries. Is Apple going to continue to do business there if that law passes? Next, the EU will mandate the particular size and connection types for those removable batteries. Is Apple going to let the EU micromanage their product designs, or will Apple just leave the region like Meta is doing?
Hardly fair equivalence. What’s more, both laws are good laws. If you like your lightning connector so much you are free to buy whichever freedom product you like in America. Don’t let us pesky Europeans force our common sense on you.
In a free market all those that want to not use a lightning port don’t buy an iPhone. Enough people do that and Apple would switch too.
Or, Apple switches in the end anyway because it wants to.  You don’t need a bureaucrat to force the issue. Usually they are doing so for reasons other than stated, and end up with. Cumbersome regulatory process of verification.  Ah, well, paper empires a built this way.
