  • Intel is now making 'Mac versus PC' ads with Justin Long

Why is Intel so afraid? Makes me skeptical about their ability to progress.
Or, given the M1 is the first generation of chips in its class, they are afraid of the future...
I think you'er more or less right on the money. But what makes me frustrated is their spending money on stupid ad campaigns like this. Put that money to work being more competitive. All the trash talk on the court doesn't matter a damn if you've let your game slip. Why humiliate yourself when everyone who knows anything can see right through it. Get your ass to practice and sharpen your game to compete.

  • Apple A14 Bionic announcement hints at 'iPhone 12' performance

Interesting that Apple would announce the A14 on the iPad Air and not their flagship iPhone. Perhaps 5nm yields as such that the iPhone was delayed? In any case, the A14 is a very impressive piece of engineering. I would expect that Apple will also use the A14 in their future Macs. In any case, the iPad Air looks like a killer upgrade!
Maybe yields of the chip are part of it, but I'd imagine that the bulk of the delays from the pandemic are coming from areas where a lot of people are working very close together to manufacture the product, which means the final assembly of the iPhone, and possibly one or more components that are less automated.

As Larry already stated, I can't see the Mac having an A14 in it. No A-series chip at all. Apple already has many categories for bespoke chips and already announced a new umbrella category, Apple Silicon.
More or less I think you are right. I doubt the launch order had anything to do with yield but rather (as you said) the pandemic. Apple ships far more iPhones than iPads and thus the preparation for that launch would have far more factors impacted by the pandemic earlier this year.

like you my gut is telling me that the Mac chips will be different from the A series chips. Granted anything can happen but I would assume it might make sense for there to be a way to describe the line from low end to high end in a digestible way. Adding new letters after the "A" might get confusing once you get up to higher performance Macs. Additionally, higher performance chips will have different thermal envelopes and cooling systems to go along with them and so I assume slightly different architectures? But, at this point anything and everything is up for grabs. That's what I find so exciting this time around. We all have no idea what's going on back there. Once the first Macs with AS are launched it should shed allot of light on how things could look for the rest of the line.

  • Facebook-owned Instagram also chafing at Apple's App Store control

This is so stupid. Facebook is such a coward. Jumping on the bandwagon after Epic. Truly pathetic to spray BS trying to get the court of public opinion to give you a business advantage. My mother would be all over my ass if I was acting like this much of a baby.

  • Facebook accuses Apple of anticompetitive behavior in EU antitrust filing

Mark is an idiot. He's been too rich and too powerful for far too long. He's lost any sense of humility or rational buy being surrounded by yes men (and women). The idea that Facebook... FACEBOOK! could have anything to say about anticompetitive behavior is hysterical. My side hurts just thinking about it. I'd be more than happy to admit and have a rational conversation about whether or not apple is too big or too powerful but just on the bounds of morality Facebook has nothing to stand on. Facebook is the ignorant, spoiled rich teenager to Apples... I don't know soft spoke, even keeled, meditation guru? Facebook needs to through that man out and replace him with someone human. Someone with a sole and who knows how to take responsibility for their mistakes. Down with multi share classifications!

  • Why the Mac's migration to Apple Silicon is bigger than ARM

I find this all rather exciting because unlike in the past where we could look at the future roadmap for PowerPC and Intel we realistically have limited understanding of what apple's new silicon could look like. That goes especially for their higher-end Macs. The chip used in the developer Mac mini looks to certainly be capable for MacBook Air and other compact portables however I'm extremely interested to see what those higher-end chips could look like.

Given the transition is scheduled to take around two years that would indicate to me that the architecture of all their Mac-based chips is more or less finalized. The new silicon should provide incredible versatility for making many processes more efficient. However, I'm curious if for the high-end iMac or Mac Pro if Apple will be motivated to silence critics worried about high-end performance. The possibilities are wide open for what kind of monster Apple could create. The Mac Pro has a lot of thermal capacity. So at the end who knows but for me at least I'm quite excited.
