  • Twitter lays off staff including whole ethics team, temporarily closes offices

    A very stable genius. Not!!

    https://fortune.com/2022/11/06/twitter-trying-to-rehire-workers-elon-musk-fired-days-ago-sources-say/

Oops. Twitter is already trying to rehire workers Elon Musk fired days ago, sources say

Some of those who are being asked to return were laid off by mistake, according to two people familiar with the moves. Others were let go before management realized that their work and experience may be necessary to build the new features Musk envisions, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing private information.

  • Apple stole #TakeNote from Utah Jazz basketball team

"Stole" is a super stretch. Even your story says so. Apple should have vetted the hashtag before using it for the refresh. But if they're smart, Utah will use the publicity to its advantage.

Apple would have never thought about these new benefits were it not for the unionization efforts. It's actually union-busting a tool to thwart additional locations unionizing. The Towson location will aim to have any new benefits included in a first contract. And typically, contracts are multi-year in nature. No one wants to renegotiate annually. It's a headache and takes several months to negotiate successor contracts.
Wrong. The only person that wins in a union are the organizers who gets all the pork.  Union? In. This economy ? For retail workers who can be easily replaced by most high school kids who use Apple products?

    so dumb
Bullshit. The union organizers are the workers themselves. Once the union is approved by the workers -- in this case the workers voted for the union 65-to-33 even after strong-arm tactics by Apple -- they work to get better treatment, pay and benefits for all of the workers in the unit. We know unions work because corps like Apple spend millions fighting against them. Including using illegal maneuvers as there are no real penalties for corps.

Once the process is begun, they can't just willy-nilly fire them. It's illegal. And stupid. And I very much doubt that Apple could just replace them with "high school kids who use Apple products" as the union would include genius techs, biz specialists and well experienced workers.

Apple only increased salaries after the unionization effort. Now Apple is claiming better benefits after the unionization vote win. Which they can take away at any time. If they succeeded in killing the union, there's nothing to make them keep these new and/or improved benefits. The union contract would be the only thing to guarantee benefits and procedures are followed.
Union can force Apple to keep stores open? In this economy? These are not hard to replace steel workers. These are easily replaced retail workers. How do I know?

I got 2 kids working part time in Apple stores here in California while they going to college. And everything they are doing, my 12 year old can do.

    Yes  bull shit lol
Show were I said the union can force Apple to keep stores open. They'd be stupid to close stores when a good percentage of their sales are made in them. Not to mention the goodwill and familiarity the retail locations affords Apple.

Ah, so you have two kids working for Apple. Appears you like the kool-aid flavor aid.  ;)

And I'm sure your 12y.o. can easily replace a Genius Technician, Business Expert/Pro, or Technical Specialist.  :D
What did you say that union vote tally in Towson was? Most of the Nay votes are genius technicians. Most of the yay votes are the “burger flippers” or front line retail like my kids.

my kids are working there part time while attending UCLA , flexible schedule, great retail pay, they love it .
Now you're pulling stuff out of your nether regions. The vote was 2-to-1. There aren't that many genius technicians. There were probably more non-voting geniuses than those voting nay. The trio of Apple workers that became the organizing committee are a Genius Tech, Operations Lead and Specialists Lead, with an average tenure of ten years. They started the ball rolling with other members of their particular group within Apple before speaking and organizing with other groups. Many of those scared by Apple after the unionization effort was announced and Apple started the anti-union campaign were the lower-level employees with less tenure.

The frustrations within Apple predate COVID. The Pandemic really pushed the unionization effort forward. From harsh scheduling imposed by corporate, to lack of pay transparency and inadequate safety measures. The workers with the most to lose have the least amount of say. Frontline/Essential workers were hailed as heroes, yet treated like dirt before, during and after The Pandemic.

The anti-union effort by Apple flies in the face of their promise in their own Supplier Code of Conduct which promises that they will be neutral in collective bargaining efforts.

Cook et al need to stop being hypocrites.

Why?! Her forefathers raped and pillaged countless people all over the world. Did no one take any history lessons? Did Tim Cook not study history??
Some not only took history lessons, they lived it:

She was tortured with axes during Kenya's struggle for independence from British colonial rule. As Britain celebrates the Platinum Jubilee of its monarch, this old fighter wants to send her a message: "Let Elizabeth bring what belongs to me."

In rural areas not, but you should follow news about NYC especially Manhattan. People are scared to leave houses as random shootings are now prevalent there let alone other crime (shoving on tracks under running train in subway incidents). That is also why many IT folks like myself working for finance work from home and rather leave the firm for another job than be force to commute to the office in NYC. NYC has changed with dumb legal reform enacted in 2019 and results are seen in last two years. I bet the same happens in many other cities run by "specially talented" politicians. For the record, that is why Deblasio lost election in NYC to former police commissioner who is now mayor and will not play games with people's safety.
Crime, especially murders, increased all over the country during the Pandemic. In rural areas and in cities. Democratic-controlled states and Republican-controlled states. Even with the sharp crime increase in a short period of time, it does not even come close to the late 80s and early 90s crime waves.

The "dumb legal reform" in NYC you mention (but don't name specifically) has nothing to do with it as places without similar legal reforms saw crime increases as well. Politicians use lies about reforms to roll them back and save their jobs. Not going to happen. And De Blasio didn't lose to a former Police Commissioner. First, he was term-limited and was not even running. And second, the winner and current Mayor Eric Adams is a former NYPD captain. He left the NYPD years ago to become a politician and was out of law enforcement for about 15/16 years before becoming Mayor.
