  • Apple Maps renames Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America after official database update

From what I understand, it's only for American devices the rest of the world will still see the Gulf of Mexico.

As this is an executive action it will disappear with the next president.

Are we great yet because I'm just embarrassed
Still showing as Gulf of Mexico here in Canada. I actually appreciate Google's approach of using both names. Embarrassed you should be, as should everyone with a conscience. We are witnessing a world-changing/destroying leadership in action.

  • Apple is working on a 'lifelike' robot lamp, and it's just as cute as you'd expect

I think I'm experiencing a failure of imagination because I can't figure out why I would want or need a robot that roams around on my physical desktop or tabletop.

But I'm happy to be enlightened if anyone has ideas...
Part of Apple's brilliance with technology is to make technology "invisible". Making technology more "life-like" is one big step in that direction. It's not about this being a robot. It's about its abilities and expressive two-way communication. Body "language" is just as important for communication as spoken language. This intelligent technology could be packaged in so many creative ways.

  • Cyber criminals are opening an old bag of tricks to attack Mac users

I still prefer MacPorts over Homebrew, and it installs into a separate directory path `/opt/` whereas Homebrew stores into the same path as standard macOS `/usr/`. On the flip side, MacPorts does require sudo, whereas Homebrew does not, so it's a give-and-take situation in terms of privileges.

Yes, MacPorts could be just as susceptible to such an attack. Be vigilant, folks.

  • Apple Maps still calls it the Gulf of Mexico, and politicians are upset

I hope we see some solid stats showing how many regret voting for this "President". So many families are in for a lot of hurt over the next four years because his stance on the US is not rooted in modern thought nor being inclusive.

  • Meta's Edits is an alternative to CapCut, as Apple forgets about Clips

I firmly believe that Apple is best positioned to create enabling technologies (ie. platforms) that other developers build end-user solutions for. With Apple trying to do everything — low-level and high-level stuff — we see them neglecting the high-level stuff all too often.
