  • X website reverts water pistol emoji to realistic gun

A symbol is *not* the thing being symbolized. Why are people scared of a drawing of a pistol?

Txitter may be "an irrelevance" to Xbit and others, but it is still used by millions.

X needs to remember they have a responsibility to the global userbase, not just Americans. Frequent exposure to anything can desensitize a person, and that can lead to a rewiring of the brain. Guns are a problem in the US. That's a fact, and the problem is growing globally until we, humans, stand against it. Unfortunately, too many can't see past their artificial "rights". Guns for food-hunting is not a problem. Guns for clay-pigeon shooting is not a problem. Guns as the first line of defence in everyday life is a major problem. If you really step back, you can see it's a self-fulling prophecy. Gun "rights" has created a need for guns for protection, and on it goes. It needs to stop.

  • Global chaos erupts as Windows security update goes bad

The headline makes it sound like a Windows Update caused the issue, when in fact, the issue was a 3rd party software company.

Could have been worded better.  People are already blaming Windows...this headline doesn't help.

Agreed. Clickbait headline. But in all fairness, it's clearly still another illustrative example of how Windows is a mess, and too risky to be so widely deployed. The addiction has to stop.

  • Samsung's Galaxy Ring is out, but it won't be a problem for the Apple Ring

Samsung beat Apple to market again, so when Apple releases theirs they can say we’ve had that.
For Apple, it's never about being first, but being first with the better design and user experience. Trouble is, the competitors have gotten really good!

But bleh! I watched the 10-minute recap of the Unpacked event, and it felt like a forced sales pitch, not a product intro. Yes, there's a difference, and Apple excels at that, too.

It won't be a problem because I don't see Apple bringing this to market. What would a ring do that Apple Watch can't or doesn't already do?
I'm sure we'll see an Apple Ring. Some people, like me, can't sleep well wearing a watch. And imagine the other capabilities... unlocking cars, doors, your Mac, and providing more input to an Apple Vision headset. Tons of opportunities for a ring form factor.

Yup a Wall Gardened type of security does have its advantages.

The Walled Garden is not about security, but convenience. In computer science, it's well-known that the more convenience you have, the less security you intrinsically have. There's a direct correlation between the two. This is why Apple's business model has been so noticeable, because it flies in the face of that correlation. Apple users enjoy both increased security and increased convenience.

The security itself is rooted in the foundational architecture of the hardware and software.
