  • iPhone 16 Pro may get Apple's brightest display yet

Seems like the slowest rumor season ever for the next iPhone Pro. Four months from launch and we're talking about potentially slightly bigger and somewhat brighter screens. As a regular (non-Max) Pro buyer, I don't want a bigger screen and increased brightness will solve a problem that mostly doesn't exist. Either Apple has gotten better at keeping a lid on things or the Sept presentation will be a snooze. They did a pretty good job at keeping the iPad Pro under wraps... the leak about the M4 possibility didn't get out until close to launch--and even then, it was highly speculative--and I don't remember reading anything about the tandem OLED screen they used or the significant trims to thickness and weight.
I did read about a tandem display. That was mentioned a few times.

i do want a brighter display though. In sunlight, my 15 Pro Max isn’t at its best. It’s like the question of how fast a computer do you want? Fast enough so that no matter how complex the function, it’s done as soon as I lift my finger from the key. Same thing about brightness. Bright enough so that even in direct sunlight on the brightest day of the year, the screen still looks perfect. That’s a ways to go yet.

Phone and watch OLEDs are a different technology from larger OLED displays which is why larger ones are very dim in comparison and why Apple had to go to a tandem display. I see no reason why Apple can’t increase the brightness if its phone displays further. My new Ultra watch gets to 3,000 nits.

Well, now it’s the 23rd to the 31st. Ok, I hope it’s better.
It'll come in no time.  :D

My main interest with the nanotexture is airplane usage. It's a crazy lighting environment which can make using a computer display frustrating. Since I'm not on airplanes too much these days, and it likely reduces contrast and sharpness, probably not worth it to me. Waiting on a live look at it myself though.
I’m 50/50 about having ordered the nano display. I’ll have to compare it to my wife’s, which will be here tomorrow. I wanted to try it. I like it in the Studio Display. This has to be different in some way or we wouldn’t get able to use the Pencil with it. These technologies get improved over time so this should be more rugged. As far as visual differences, I can see some in the reviews as vied in my M2 iPad Pro. The nano does have less black and likely slightly obscured shadow detail, but as some have mentioned, it’s mostly at somewhat oblique angles which isn’t a real problem.

I’m generalynot a fan of matte displays, because of these reasons and have said that here and elsewhere. In a perfect world we would have glossy displays used in dark rooms. That’s how we did our work back when, in my company. Hopefully, I won’t regret the choice.

Well, as usual I spent a lot of money I didn’t have to. So I bought the whole thing, 13”, keyboard and Pencil and also the nano glass. I hope the glass isn’t too difficult to clean as my iPad screen gets dirtier than my Apple monitor screen.
    ...
anyway, I’m pretty excited to see this new one. It should be here between the 16th and the 20th. My wife’s, which doesn’t have the nano screen and 512GB instead of 1TB, will be here the 15th.
Can you give us a report on the crispness, clarity and contrast of the two, nano-texture versus smooth? And the difference in feel with the Pencil?
Of course. On this thread? I just checked and it won’t get to me until possibly the 21st. The keyboard and Pencil will arrive the 15th.
This thread or AI’s review thread. Which is most convenient at the time. A new forum post even!

Closeup pictures would be cool. I will try them out at the retail store, but the more reviews available the better. This thing is going to cost me something like $2600.
Yeah, with tax it was a bit over $2900. I screwed up a bit when ordering which is why it’s coming a bit late. I did everything in the store app as usual. Then my wife asked for help ordering hers. I forgot to get through the actual payment process when I went to help her. I only realized it right after we did hers. I went back and finished. By then, the 16th that I was given during the order skipped to the 19th to the 21st. Grrr! My own fault. Hopefully a good sign for sales though as it just added about five minutes to my time.

So disappointing.  Apple had to make it so thin.  That means it has a much smaller battery than it could have had.  OLED screens typically have higher power demands.  In reality it will probably only get 6 hours or so.
In reality, it will get what Apple says it will get. Apple is know for conservative battery estimates. Cell usually take almost an hour off the recharge interval, but these will likely get the same 9.5 to 11.5 hours they always get. Would I like even longer life? Yes, but it’s not worse.
