TSMC managers think Americans don't work hard enough
It’s interesting that some here are imposing their values on others. We tend to think that an 8 hour day is final. But that’s not true everywhere, particularly in Asia. When you’re management, or off the clock in a white collar position, you’re often expected to work longer hours. But you get other perks that other employees don’t, as an offset. Apple still expects software, and likely hardware engineers, to spend most of their time near the end of a project, on that project, and limit, to some extent, the time they spend with their families, in order to finish on time.
we look at gains made in labor here, and don’t understand that it’s not true everywhere. -
First M2 Pro benchmarks prove big improvement over M1 Max
AniMill said:“Wish I could simply plug a Mac mini into my iMac display.”
I believe this to be deliberate. If Target Displays Mode still existed, the reason and need for the Studio Display would be greatly diminished. I believe many iMac 5K users would see the Mac Mini M2 Pro as a great alternative to buying a new Apple display.
Apple designed their own driver chip to have one 5k display. But the conventions they had to use weren’t standard, and as a result, target mode had to go away. Sad, but not intentional.
ah, I didn’t see the other posts explaining this. Just to keep in mind, Apple had displays even when target mode was in effect, so having a monitor now is obviously not why it no longer works. -
Apple plans microLED displays in everything after 2024 Apple Watch Ultra update
Apple should come out with this first for the Ultra for two good reasons. The first is that it’s a small screen. That’s much easier to manufacture in quantity, as any defects that turn up in early production will have more screens that that be used. Just as with chip manufacture, larger ones mean fewer product per wafer or sheet, in the case of screens. So while working out the bugs of production, small screens will result in higher percentages of product. Secondly, price is less of an issue with a small product such as the ultra. It’s $800, and the screen is just a fraction of the size of even an iPhone SE screen.Let’s not make the mistake to think that a Tv MicroLED is the same as that if smaller devices. It’s not. Just as Tv OLEDs are very different from those of smaller devices, the same thing is true fio MicroLED. A good example is that the iPhone Pro screens can have a full screen brightness of 1,200 bits, and a 20% brightness of 2,000 bits. The best current Tv OLEDs can do is about 650 nits for 10-15% and about 275 full screen. That’s a whale of a difference. -
Apple brings M2 to iPad Pro alongside Wi-Fi 6E
dstrauss said:What a disappointing mish-mash today Tim. Pro's get M2 and WiFi 6e (do they even make those routers yet?) However, the new iPad Gen 10 get's landscape camera and the awesome new Magic Keyboard Folio, but it only gets Apple Pencil 1 support. Must have a lot of those lying around the warehouse gathering dust, heh Apple.
About the old Pencil, that would require the new charging method which costs more than the port it uses now, which is there anyway. That’s the main reason, as Apple is trying to keep costs down for those models. -
NFT firms say Apple rules make the App Store 'impossible'
My hope is for crypto to just collapse and go away. No, I don’t agree that there’s anything good coming from it. Unless you deal with illegal activities, that is. NFT’s are ridiculous. I hope Apple doesn’t give in to them. If people buy them and they fail, as many have done, Apple will manage to get blamed for that, just as people who think Apple is a bank that can be squeezed to get money out of every time they fail to read the instructions and sue them.
