  • Canon debuts EOS R5 C 8K cinema camera with active cooling system

First of all there is in body stabilization, just not IBIS. It’s electronic stabilization as used on other high end Canon video cameras.

as far as cooling goes, that likely why. It’s easier to cool off a stationary affixed sensor than one mounted in a moving holder because that can’t be heatsinked. Yes, the processor is also a source of heat, and no, the M1 wouldn’t help, in fact it would run much hotter. Much bigger as well.

no prosumer version because what you want would cost about the same thing. Canon makes pro cameras that have 8K. Don’t ask what they cost. Consumers aren’t buying camcorders anymore. The sales are very low.

  • Spotify blows through 2021 HiFi streaming deadline, with no release in sight

The concern trolling among the Apple fan sites about a throwaway feature is top-notch. Both AppleInsider and 9to5 Mac dedicated above-the-fold space on a Sunday morning to this. Like, someone got out of bed on a day off to write this nonsense.

To be clear: As a Spotify Premium subscriber, I certainly wish they wouldn't promise features they're unable to deliver. However: Glass houses and all, given Apple's inability to deliver its full menu of promised features in iOS 15 or Big Sur, even months after their launch. Software development is incredibly difficult. The push-pull between what marketing wants to tease and what engineering can deliver is real, and present at any company, whether Apple or Spotify or a 5-person app shop. Difficult, under the best of circumstances.

Maybe be better, AI? You write some great articles and often cut through the junk that passes as content elsewhere. Kudos. Stuff like this is not up to standard, IMO (Offered respectfully. Obvi, I'm one reader among thousands. Take my comments within that context.)
I doubt this has anything to do with software development. It’s far more likely that the very low rates Spotify gives to the music authorities is a major stumbling block. Apple was able to offer this at current prices. But Spotify, which loses money most quarters, despite promising several years ago that they would remain in the black, likely can’t afford this. If Apple raised prices to $15 per month as Amazon had done for lossless, then they could have also done that. But with Apple not doing so, they couldn’t either. Amazon lowered their pricing subsequently. So it’s possible they’re still trying to negotiate pricing.

since they’ve already claimed that they pay too much, it’s going to be difficult for them to compete against Amazon and Apple, neither of which have to worry about profit/loss balance sheets for their music offerings.

  • New & colorful 27-inch iMac starts production, reportedly won't have mini LED

    Really…27”?
This is just a replacement of the 27" Intel iMac. They've had those for over a decade.
I think the point is that with the screen size unchanged, it is now pretty close to the lower end 24" which increased from 21.5".  I myself had hoped that it would have been bumped up to 30".
The 21.5" was just grossly undersized and long overdue to be upped to 24" (the minimum size for monitors for the past 5 years). This also better aligns with the 24/27" LG Ultrafine monitors that Apple themselves have sold for the past 5 years. I can see as an opportunity for a 32" iMac (Pro) being offered in the future though.
The 21.5 was mostly sold to,schools, where is was large enough. But increasingly is was sold as an inexpensive business machine. With the M1 those sales seems to have increased. I imagine the 24 is part of that sales increase. My friend just bought one as a replacement for his old 27, on my advice, and is very happy with the size. He’s an aluminum color computer person, and I told him to look at them in the store before buying. He bought the red one.

id like to see this a bit bigger than 27. 32 is much too big, really. Only a few people will want something that large. I don’t think they understand just how large that would be. 28-29 would be fine. But it looks as though that’s not going to happen.

  • TSMC has begun testing 3nm chips, volume production in Q4 2022

    tht said:
About a month ago, wasn't there speculation that TSMC 3nm was going to be late for the A16, and Apple would have stick with 5nm or 4nm?

If they are starting pilot production now, I think that is good news for mass production of TSMC 3nm A16 chips starting in June or July for a late Sep iPhone release.

For the M3 on TSMC 3 nm, it's a no brainer piece of speculation. The M2 hasn't shipped yet! And the rumors are for a MBA w/M2 shipping in Summer. That means the M3 won't be coming out until Fall of 2023. 2 years from now. If the M2 actually shipped now, there's a chance Apple might try for a yearly update for the MBA so this news might mean an M3 for Fall of 22 being at risk, but it's not, and it's looking like an 18mo cycle. So, no worries.
Assuming that volume production means significant production volume, and late next year means somewhere around the forth quarter if the year, there is no way Apple could get these chips for a September, or October release.

  • White House shot down Intel plans to increase chip production in China

The chip shortage will continue under Biden administration. Companies will not manufacture chips in US. They cannot make money. If they try to raise prices they need to double or triple the prices. And this route is not working. Democrats have no concept of capitalism.
That’s just totally incorrect. In fact, the entire mess we’ve been in the past few years is the responsibility of the last administration. Trump made made claims about plants being built here because of his demands. It turned out that the few that were, had been in the planning and even early construction stage before he came into office, or even began campaigning. A couple, which he visited, and made a big deal about, had their work shifted to Mexico when he was in office.

this wasn’t really thought of as a problem that merited serious work until the Covid related shortages. And when shortages happen, we get inflation and other issues. So suddenly, it’s a problem.

i didn’t see Trump work to get a $50 billion fund for semiconductor R&D and manufacture here in the USA, but Biden pushed it through.
