  • iPhone 'batterygate' legal drama isn't quite done yet

Once again everybody...here are the three situations where throttling could occur:

    A. Battery is at or below 80% capacity. Any lithium ion battery in any phone begins to lose the ability to provide consistent voltage at/below 80% capacity.

    B. Battery is at or below 20% charge. Regardless of whether the battery is brand new or old, voltage flow can become inconsistent below 20% charge.

    C. Battery is exposed to cold temperatures. Freezing temperatures can cause any lithium ion battery in any phone to lose consistent voltage flow.

All three of those situations are standard limitations for any phone sized lithium ion battery. And two out of the three don't require the user to get a new battery. Throttling would only occur in situations where the voltage demand from the system was too high for the battery to provide. In other words, without throttling the phone would simply shut off as a safety precaution per the voltage issue.

  • Apple's extortionate upgrade prices can't stop the MacBook Air being a bargain

"in making you upgrade at Apple's ludicrously expensive rates."

Are you comparing Apple's upgrade rates for M-Series RAM (on-die memory) to other platforms (eg, Intel) where the RAM is on separate packages/chips (eg, DDR5?) If so, that's not a fair comparison, because the performance isn't the same. On-die memory has lower latency, higher bandwidth, lower power consumption, reduced complexity and increased reliability. But if you don't value those things, then Apple RAM upgrades are expensive, yes.
Yep. Unified Memory allows the CPU and GPU to access RAM at the same time. DDR systems require the RAM to be split up between the CPU/GPU. That's why people say that, in general, the amount of RAM in an M series system is the approximate equivalent of double the amount of DDR RAM. So the price for 32GB of Unified Memory should really be compared to the price of 64GB of DDR.

  • Apple's iPhone Fold is creeping closer - what the rumor mill says is coming

avon b7 said: Folding phones have a huge selling point: the folding part. It's safe to say 100% of folding phones are sold on that feature.
But that doesn't mean customers consider the folding part to be without flaws. And saying folding is a "huge" selling point is contradicted by the actual sales of folding phones.

avon b7 said: Again. If that were an issue, people wouldn't opt for them.
Then that must mean Siri and AI are a non-issue for Apple. People buy iPhones. Non-issue.

  • Apple's iPhone Fold is creeping closer - what the rumor mill says is coming

avon b7 said: From there on, aspect ratio is irrelevant as you are always doubling your screen size for more comfortable use for all the other tasks. Literally everything. And that is the appeal of folding phones.
Caveat: you're doubling your screen size from an aspect ratio that is typically skinnier than non-folding phones. So the folded version is less productive than a non-folding phone and the unfolded version advantage for widescreen content is marginal versus a non-folding phone.
