  • EU advocacy group sues Apple because other streaming music services hiked prices

Until Apple released the iPhone I doubt Spotify even had personal streaming as a viable proposition (if they even existed then). Given Apple have charged right from the start, Spotify could just have said “We don’t want to use your expensive delivery system” and done it themselves. But they didn’t. And now they complain (or at least some people are).
Spotify was an early adopter of the App Store (2008) and their strategy was to make the free ad-supported version available for download and to have customers pay for the premium version on Spotify’s web site. That approach = 0% commission to Apple and ANY company that wanted to could have followed the same approach.

So that’s the reality: streaming services always had a path to entirely avoid the App Store commission.

Swing and a miss this whole product…
LOL...your phone, watch, tablet and laptop are all mobile but they all have small screens. AVP is mobile and provides large screens. Get it? Mobile + large screens? That's not a swing/miss. That's the future of computing.

  • Time Bandits cancelled by Apple TV+

This is one of those shows where you wonder why they were so interested in the original IP if they didn't have a very good idea of what to do with it.

Have fun trying to figure out the legit apps from the scam apps, Yurp!
Have no fear! Back in March Kay Jebelli followed some DMA hearings live and took notes on X. Here’s a quote with extra commentary from Gruber: “

Interesting detail: the EC told Apple that they aren’t allowed to notarize apps to protect users. So “government authorities are the ones that are going to have to step up to protect” app developers and users from the risks of these 3rd-party apps.

In other words…the EC will take care of making sure malware, phishing, scams, clones, IP rip-offs, and pirated apps aren’t getting through.”

FYI: Apple still includes notarization as part of the alternative app store experience in the EU.

"Notarization for iOS apps is a baseline review that applies to all apps, regardless of their distribution channel, focused on platform policies for security and privacy and to maintain device integrity. Through a combination of automated checks and human review, Notarization helps ensure apps are free of known malware, viruses, or other security threats, function as promised, and don’t expose users to egregious fraud."

  • J.D. Vance shouldn't open his mouth about Apple if he doesn't have a clue

The whole point of tariffs is to increase the domestic prices of the goods that are subject to tariffs. It makes them less competitive versus the goods that don't have the tariff. The problem with just generally slapping a tariff on anything manufactured in China is the sheer volume of products that it would impact. In many cases, American consumers wouldn't have a cheaper choice. Everything would be priced higher due to the tariffs.
