How is YouTube "insufferable" on Apple TV stb? I watch a ton of YouTube content through the official app for Apple TV and have zero complaints.

I assume they were referring to the intrusive ads on the official YouTube app. I have never used "SmartTube", but I understand it to be ad-free and probably of questionable legality as it circumvents YouTube's terms of service, which is likely why it's not available as an AppleTV app.
