  • Apple-backed lobbying groups accused of fighting climate legislation

Good, I hope it’s true. Anyone that has any sanity left should be opposed to this bill, for many reasons, climate nonsense being just one. Climate is purely a political issue and a way to manipulate economies. Even if you failed grade school science and somehow believe that extremely low levels of gaseous plant fertilizer is somehow bad for the planet, the political efforts to reduce CO2 do nothing.

  • Amazon unveils Astro smart home robot, 15-inch Echo Show, and more

I think the two patrol robots (ground and flying) are interesting.  I wouldn’t hesitate to try them if privacy wasn’t an issue.  But in this day and age, where everything goes to remote servers and the government like to go fishing in private data, I have my reservations.
I have a question, and I hope I don't get yelled at for misbehaving on these boards again, but...your concern is the government? Really? Private companies and hackers is minor compared to 'the government'? What do you think would interest 'the government' exactly? (unless planning on blowing up people etc) I think the privacy issues are key issues for PRIVATE companies that provide crappy online security and allow massive data breaches. I have to admit, I rarely think 'the government' is worried about me. I think concerns about 'the government' reading your emails to your mom and dad are a bit X-Files.

Do you know anything about history?? I can't believe people actually think like this.

  • Apple making display repairs harder on iPhone 13 Pro is a step too far

All this 'right to repair' stuff is such nonsense. I don't want the quality, capability, or security of any products compromised by this crap. I hope Apple never gives in to any of this. As technology improves, products are invariably going to get more complex and difficult to repair. My future, hermetically sealed iPhone can't come soon enough!

  • 'Foundation' is beautiful, lavish, and boring say reviews

I watched the first two episodes last night, and I thought it was great. I feel a bit thrown off by it though. At first they're talking about the destruction of the universe! Then it's off to just work on a somewhat boring (relatively) project. It makes logical sense I suppose, but I think setting up these grandiose themes, to then go right into intellectual themes, felt a bit like they slammed on the breaks. Maybe it would have been more cohesive to set a more intellectual tone at first by following the girl in her home world a bit more so we're not caught off guard by the change in tone.

Anyway, minor quibbles, and it's just the first two episodes. This show looks amazing. Now, with my initial impressions out of the way, I can't wait to keep watching, whichever direction it goes (intellectual vs adventure/drama).

  • Apple Watch Series 7 has support for 60.5GHz short-range data transfer

Probably just for faster OS updates, but perhaps it would allow the watch to be a sensor input for an AR/VR headset? Particularly if this will involve the wearer being an avatar and interacting with other avatars in a virtual environment.
