Apple's latest security update is important, but the mass-media response is unhinged
cpsro said:I’ve a good idea why Fox News has made the update their lead story: distract from Weisselberg flipping and getting a very light sentence for pleading guilty to 15 felonies. Maybe the story will push some people to Android, too, where they can be tracked and monetized better.
Update: the security update has been pushed into second place by a critical story about transgender students.
The story about TG students is playing right to their audience whereas the Apple one is for a news day where all the relevant news is not for their base.
If you want to see where Fox US is heading then watch Sky News Australia. Rupert M has IMHO a fast track ticked to the fiery furnace when he does eventually pop his clogs.

Apple is just getting started with Apple Silicon

I would really like Apple to deliver superior chips, but once Intel has access to advanced chip manufacturing (from TSMC or their own) I fear that Apple (with all the staff fluctuations) will be not able to compete in the long term.
DOOMED, I say!
Is that sagebrush I see blowing in the wind?
They will come but not for a while and it will only be the techno nerds who upgrade for a while. Money is tight. I'm willing to bet $1 (that is my limit) that most people won't be upgrading their networks for a few years. Will Apple be shipping WiFi 7 by then? Probably but at the moment it does not matter for most users.
Personally, it is not worth spending any money on my home network until FTTH arrives in 2024 at the earliest. Naturally YMMV -

US lawmakers call for universal charging standard - but not necessarily for USB-C
xbit said:Kuyangkoh said:Geeeee…..we should use one car standard, too many and bad for consumers and the environment
It is long past time that the USA stopped looking inward and became a full participating member of Team Earth.
Isn't there a standard for... Gas pump nozzles? I don't see a Ford only pump or a GM only one? One pump works for all makes of car. Why not for charging electrical devices?

Tesla, BMW don't appear to be gearing up to join Apple's new CarPlay vision
chadbag said:Now I know why BMW drivers are attracted to BMWs. "Takes one to know one". Arrogant a-hole drivers attracted to arrogant company.
(Note the above is said in jest, but only partially. Whether deserved or Not, BMW drivers do have a certain stereotyped reputation).
The very small rear indicator light of the M3 might as well not be there for all the use it gets.
When cruising at around the 70mph limit on the Motorways, I regularly get overtaken by these black blobs doing well over 90mph.
