EU proposes breaking up Google over anti-competition concerns
Hey Google... Go... Go Now.
Ok, so I have a downer on Google but if you saw the logs of the hack attempts on an almost daily basis originating from Google controlled IP addresses. Do they do anything about it? Do pigs fly?
Their attacks include trying to scan every page on my sites. I have the robots.txt but they simply don't care. All they care is suck, suck, slurp, and suck.
I have blocked every Google IP address but they keep on registering new ones (according to whois)

Editorial: As Apple A13 Bionic rises, Samsung Exynos scales back its silicon ambitions

How many affordable electric car makers are giving Tesla any real competition?Define 'affordable' ?What is affordable to you may well not be for me.Next year, we... well at least in Europe will see a good number of BEV's that are much more affordable for the majority of people than even the lowest priced Tesla Model 3.These will be produced in Volume. The VW ID.3 is just the start. The new Zoe, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Peugeot e208 (the latter two share the same platform) are just the start. -

Advertisers flee to Android as majority of iOS users opt out of ad tracking
This move has IMHO, a wider impact than just the Android vs IOS wrt Advertising.I know that I'm not alone in saying that 'I've had it with Adverts'. We get so many things promoted to us every waking hour that if every ad exec was taken out and shot (not really asking for it) then I'd cheer. I'm fed up with ads. If I get bombarded with too many ads for a particular make of thing then I make sure that I will never ever buy that particular thing.Eventually, the laws of diminishing returns will kick in and people will like me just tune out when it comes to ads.At least here in the UK, we have the BBC which does not carry ads. Yes, I pay them a license fee every year but at least I don't get some Z level celeb trying to push something that they'd never be seen dead using invading my personal space 4 times an hour.Every TV prog that I watch is recorded just so that when I come to watch it, I can skip over the ads.Did I say that I hate ads? Well, I do.Well done Apple. -
New 'EvilQuest' ransomware is actively targeting macOS users in the wild
razorpit said:Problem is a lot of times the backups are hosed long before you even notice you were infected. Unless you have multiple Time Machine drives you rotate through I think you're still hosed.
I don't have the time to research at the moment, but does iCloud Drive provide any ransomware protection? That's why I use (and recommend) a 'Rotating Tower of Hanoi' structure for backup media. This goes back to the days of 2400ft Tape Reels. It applies just as much today as it did in the 1980's.I can go to the Fire Safe in my Garage and get a full Time Machine backup from January 2020 or December 2019 and other dates inbetween. -

Apple's user privacy stance has caused problems for internal engineering teams
Good system security (inc privacy) is not easy or cheap. It takes a lot of time and effort not to cut corners and leave gaping holes. It is also not something that you can add to an existing system in a hurry. It is far better to design it into the solution from the start. Sadly, far too many managers think that this is an option that can be skipped.
As a now-retired software engineer with over 45 years of experience, I applaud Apple's stance on this.

M2 Macs keep Apple near-flat as PC market declines in 2022
red oak said:Wait until the M3 rolls out across the product line
it is shocking Mac market share is still below 15%. Very hard to believe given what I see out there with my own eyes,
My son’s college is 80% Mac now. None of them will ever switch to Windows
Sad fact of life.

Toyota president tells Apple to prepare for the long-haul with 'Apple Car'
prismatics said:robin huber said:Yes, because Apple knows nothing about long term service and support.
In terms of cars, they actually don't.Very true. They won't be able to get out of stopping support and spares production after 5 years. Then there is the right to repair. There is no way that Apple would ever be charging me through the nose to change the brake pads. These are commodity items and any half-decent mechanic including myself can change them. The same goes for tyres and wiper blades.Apple will be on a huge learning curve. What has worked for their business so far won't work when you get into the Automotive business.

White House says Trump doesn't want to harm Apple and iPhone prices won't rise
Blaurieter said:The new White House has just turned President Kennedy's phrase and personalized it:"Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."Now it is Ask not what your Trump can do for you—ask what you can do for Trump."The government used to do things FOR people (FEMA, Medicare, infrastructure), now it is what the government will do TO youi. [of to corporations, to colleges, local and state government).
ask not what your country can do for you - ask how much will it cost me to keep Trumpo off my back?
