  • Google launches Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro with Tensor processor

Never heard of the Bayer cycle before, though. Also not entirely clear on why you would want direct-injection diesel in a camera.

I think that this might be an Anti-aliasing filter on the sensor. My first digital camera, a Nikon D100 had one of those.
50MP is a lot of pixels for such a small sensor.  A Nikon Z7 has a slighlty smaller sensor but in a full 35mm format. It must use the AI to do a lot of Pixel binning.

The above is all from memory and might be 100% wrong.

  • Android executive offers to help Apple deploy RCS messaging

There is a whole world out there beyond the lower 48 states. Are carriers all over the world going to adopt RCS?  What about all those phones that are not smart. In many places, the dumb phone still rules.

Unless Google relinquishes control of the RCS standard then it is IMHO DOA. As has been mentioned, Google could just drop it because it is not a money earner (or a huge data source for them). What happens then eh? Would Apple be up bovine excrement creek without a paddle?

  • Apple's A15 Bionic announcements undersells improvements over A14

Apple trouncing ARM, Samsung and Qualcomm again, as usual.
ARM does not produce SOC's. Apple uses the ARM architecture but yes, they are trouncing Samsung, Qualcomm, and the rest.

  • One-time purchase Microsoft Office 2021 coming to Mac on Oct. 5

One weird thing - Microsoft is only adding new features to 365 updates. The retail boxed versions just get bug fixes.
Most users never use more than 75% of the features of Office as it stands. IMHO, they (MS) is trying to milk us as much as possible for our $$$ but delivering very little that is of interest to the bulk of users.

I keep one License just so that I can ensure that any docs I produce print properly when sent to others. LibreOffice is getting close but some things are still a work in progress.

  • Apple sued over iPhone, iPad and Mac camera designs

Sounds broad and obvious.  Seems like they’re saying if you mount optical imaging components to a circuit board the way every other component is mounted, you’re infringing.  But I haven’t done a read of the patents so maybe there’s some non-obvious secret sauce.  I doubt it.
I guess that mounting an OCP-71 on a circuit board infringes their patents. Oh wait... I did that back in the 1970's. There is plenty of prior art around mounting components on a circuit board. I don't see what is so special about a lens that makes it unique from every other component. Then again, IANAL and certainly not a patent shyster.

The patent owner should also be suing Nikon, Canon, and every other digital camera maker. I know from taking my D100 (made in 2003) apart (after dropping it) that the sensor array is mounted on a circuit board. It has an anti-aliasing filter over the sensor which is much like a lens.
