Google is trying to make Chrome less of a resource hog
lordjohnwhorfin said:If only ad blocking would work on Safari... There are 20 different ad blockers, none of them works anymore. I hate to have to use that POS Firefox, but at least adblock works on it.
Adguard works very, very well.

Toyota president tells Apple to prepare for the long-haul with 'Apple Car'
prismatics said:robin huber said:Yes, because Apple knows nothing about long term service and support.
In terms of cars, they actually don't.Very true. They won't be able to get out of stopping support and spares production after 5 years. Then there is the right to repair. There is no way that Apple would ever be charging me through the nose to change the brake pads. These are commodity items and any half-decent mechanic including myself can change them. The same goes for tyres and wiper blades.Apple will be on a huge learning curve. What has worked for their business so far won't work when you get into the Automotive business.

LaCie BOSS SSD review: a photographer's best friend
Where is the CFII or XQD card slot then?Ok, I guess that there have to be some compromises.Changing the battery on my Nikon Z7 takes just a few seconds. I keep one in the inside pocket of my outdoor jacket when out taking piccies. That keeps it warm and ready to go.With a 128Gb XQD card in the camera, there is little need to want to change it during the day. When I need to transfer piccies, I connect the camera to my MacBook and import the files directly into Lightroom. Then I backup the days work to TWO separate devices (both USBC Nvme 2TB drives. That gives me three copies of the files before I even think about deleting the images in the camera. This drive just seems to be a bit of a faff these days especially when I can charge my MacBook from my car as I drive. That supply is also powerful enough to charge the camera batteries. Failing that, there is always a socket available in the Hotel room. charging while sleeping is a no brainers.YMMV naturally but this device seems to be about 5 years too late. -

Apple to pay more tax in UK following EU profit-shifting law repeal
Only £10M? hardly worth it unless Apple isn't the real target. There are a number of well-documented cases where Amazon pays fewer property taxes (business rates) than corer shops. That is not right by any shape or form.Apple certainly pays its fair share of property taxes. I shudder to think how much they are for their Regent Street store. The target will be all the dodges companies use to avoid paying Corporation Tax. This is a tax on profits. Complex [cough][cough] licensing payments where almost all the profit is erased by paying an offshore tax haven is what the UK, France, Germany and other countries are targetting.
