Don't expect the 'Apple Car' to have a steering wheel, analyst says
Millions of people will say 'pass' on this car if this is the case. There are many Tier 1 countries that are a long, long, long way from making this legal.I'd love to know how small manoeuvres could be made without controls.Think about driving onto a Ferry. The last thing you want to hear is..."I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that." when the crew want you to squeeze up a few inches and the automation 'says no!'. -
Apple may have a solution for fraying Lightning cables
lkrupp said:I don't believe the bullshit about Apple’s cables. I’ve been using Apple cables and dongles for a decade and have never, EVER, had one fray or fail on me. I’ve never heard a complaint for my extended family about them either. To me this is yet another example of internet amplification of an issue. And if Apple cables do have a real problem then all cables from all manufacturers do too. The article even states that, "It is well known that bending of the cable near the termination point may cause unwanted strain on the wire connections, which may lead to cable failure”. Yes, it’s well known in the entire cable industry and has been for almost a century of electrical connections, wiring, etc.
Great if Apple is looking at the problem but this is an industry problem, not just an Apple problem. So stop with the “Apple cables are crap” nonsense. They are no better or worse than others when the user yanks, bends, twists or otherwise abuses a cable.I've just had my first Apple Supplied cable failure. Ok, it was subject to a good deal of stress where it was located so it wasn't a surprise to me. I was the one that came with my iPhone 6 so I did get a lot of use from it.I have replaced it with a braided cable from Tesco (a UK Supermarket). Far more robust.I use a short (18cm) cable in the car. Again, this is a braided type. -
Kuo: 'Apple Car' to use Hyundai's E-GMP platform, GM and PSA partnerships possible

Apple's defining difference in the computer market was user experience. How different is that from what they are rumored to do for cars? Most people only care about what they can touch, see and feel. Only geeks and gear heads are going to care about performance specs. And cars are worse than computers. With computers, users will often hit the peak the performance of there computers. I have never driven faster than my car go.If you head on over to any of the Tesla... sorry EV forums there are endless debates about specs, especially the 0-60mph times. Come in even 0.00001 seconds behind a Tesla and your car will be slagged off as DOA (or worse). 4.7 secs is fine for me but the new king on the block is the updated Model S (1.9secs). Any Apple badged car will be compared in every little detail with a Tesla. Even if the fit and finish are far, far better, if the specs are worse then the crowing from the Teslarti will be as loud as a Heavy Metal band with the volume set to 20.Journo's will come in on the back of that and make sure that their darling Tesla is far, far better than this upshot Apple and the negative reviews will flow.make no mistake, the Tesla disciples will do their utmost to make Apple's entrance into the EV world as difficult as they possibly can. This is just what they do to all makes but they'll really want to put the boot in on Apple. -
Facebook tests ad tracking notifications ahead of Apple's privacy rollout

It is called 'spin'. Skilled practitioners in this [cough][cough] art get paid an awful lot of money to put out bull droppings like this.

Also 99% of Google and all of Twitter is blocked. All incoming and outgoing traffic is blocked.Proudly free of all social media platforms since Microsoft took over LinkedIn. I deleted my account the day the deal closed.
