  • Firefox 95 for Mac improves security, reduces power consumption

Firefox is my main browser on Linux, Mac and Windows. I do not want to contribute to a Google dominated browser. That being said, had to use Google Chromium for YouTube because the previous version of Firefox has some problems (mostly on Linux). So far this Firefox 95 is working fine with YouTube for me.
I don't follow this.  Boycott Google's browser but support Google's video sharing platform?  Do you "Google" things you want to find?
    I watch YouTube but :-1:
I don't log in. Pointless really as I've never had any form of account on a google owned service.
It is done on a totally sandboxed VM that is restored every 2-3 days.
All internet access is via a VPN that makes me appear as being in Warsaw, Poland.
On my home network, google.com is blocked by my firewall.
My default search engine is duckduckgo.

If you care about your own security on the internet then you have to spend some time working on it.
    Be vigilant, Be safe.

  • Apple's A15 Bionic announcements undersells improvements over A14

Apple trouncing ARM, Samsung and Qualcomm again, as usual.
ARM does not produce SOC's. Apple uses the ARM architecture but yes, they are trouncing Samsung, Qualcomm, and the rest.

  • Apple sued over iPhone, iPad and Mac camera designs

Sounds broad and obvious.  Seems like they’re saying if you mount optical imaging components to a circuit board the way every other component is mounted, you’re infringing.  But I haven’t done a read of the patents so maybe there’s some non-obvious secret sauce.  I doubt it.
I guess that mounting an OCP-71 on a circuit board infringes their patents. Oh wait... I did that back in the 1970's. There is plenty of prior art around mounting components on a circuit board. I don't see what is so special about a lens that makes it unique from every other component. Then again, IANAL and certainly not a patent shyster.

The patent owner should also be suing Nikon, Canon, and every other digital camera maker. I know from taking my D100 (made in 2003) apart (after dropping it) that the sensor array is mounted on a circuit board. It has an anti-aliasing filter over the sensor which is much like a lens.

  • iPhone users drawn to iPad but not Mac or Apple's home devices, study finds

They have fallen so far behind in laptops.  No touch screen, no face recognition… the competition offers that and for half the price.
For some of us, not having a touch screen or face recognition is a big... no make that a huge plus.
The biggest thing for me is not having to deal with Microsoft. After 20+ years of developing for the Windows platform, I threw in the towel with W10. The writing was on the wall with W8/8.1.
No more having printers not working after an update. Mostly no issues with an update throwing all my customizations out with the bathwater. etc etc etc
The problems that my family has on a regular basis with Windows usually after an update, are gradually persuading them to come on over to the Mac world. I refuse to get involved with any of their borked laptops. They are on their own.

    See... swings and roundabouts.

  • Rudy Giuliani says warrant illegal since agents already had data 'from the iCloud'

It might be that the search warrant served on Mr Running Hair Dye, specifically excluded any hard drives that didn't belong to him. If those drives did belong to Hunter Biden then if they were seized then that could be grounds to invalidate the whole warrant.
All speculation naturally. We don't know if there was a separate warrant served on Apple for the iCloud stuff.
There is a lot more to come out in this case.
