We were told Russia had the most advanced and powerful military in the world.
    Who told you that?
CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, FOX, NYT, et al. So did the various retired U.S. generals flapping their gums on those news channels. They all predicted a quick victory by the vaunted Russian military machine over the outnumbered, out gunned Ukrainians. I guess you weren’t paying attention.

  • New York Apple retail union organizers are asking for $30 an hour

$30/hr is ridiculous for a retail worker. Here’s a radical idea. Apple Store workers should be paid on a draw+commission basis. No sell, no eat that week. That’s how I started (in1977) out selling musical instruments in a mall store. I got what was known as a ‘draw’ salary every month that went against any commissions I made in sales. My draw as $750/mo so if I sold enough product to earn $1000 in commissions I got $750 a draw check + $250 commission check. If the next month I only sold enough product to make $500 in commissions I still got my $750 draw but was now $250 in the hole so the following month I had to sell enough to make $1000 commission just to break even. Quite an incentive to work hard and sell, sell, sell. It quickly separates the men from the boys (and the women from the girls).

But somehow I think the entitled little pricks today would think that’s slave labor or something. They want $30/hr? For what? Standing around and showing people where the iPhone cases are? Trying to explain to some idiot why their iPad screen will cost money to repair because they dropped it and don't have AppleCare?

  • Johny Srouji says the Apple Silicon strategy challenged Apple

Out of all the desktop/laptop OEMs out there Apple was the only one with the balls to strike out on its own. As the article points, with tremendous risk and challenges. The rest remain locked down to whatever Intel or AMD does or does not have to offer. But since the debut of the M1 suddenly other OEMs are investigating producing their own SOCs.

One thing is certain for those of us who keep riding the Apple log flume, it’s a thrilling ride and you never know what’s around the corner, just like an Indiana Jones movie.

No, I didn’t plunk down $150 to update my F-150.
I’m still using the maps from 2001年 in my 2002年 Prius. They work fine most of the time, and for the times they don’t I pull out my iPhone.
I live close to St. Louis, MO. A new bridge over the Mississippi river was built about 5 years ago. When I’m driving over that bridge in my F-150 it shows me floating over the Mississippi in thin air because it doesn’t know the bridge exists. Mildly funny.

  • Mac shipments grew in Q1 2022 as PC market slumped

Remember, IDC was the one who predicted the Microsoft's Windows Phone would overtake the iPhone in two years. So take anything IDC says with a grain, maybe two grains, of salt. Their reports are s.w.a.g's at best as are the rest of analyst’s reports. And why should we care anyway?
