San Francisco doctor charged with possessing child pornography in iCloud
narwhal said:I imagine this will inspire people who have those types of images to either delete them all or move to Android. And I assume Google will implement the same checks at some point so they don't become known as that type of platform. (Maybe they already are.) I can't really see this tech as being helpful to China, Russia, or other dictatorships since people tend not to store self-incriminating photos on their devices. Wait, China might want to find images of Tank Man or Tiananmen Square, since those things never happened. Well, never mind.CSAI Match
CSAI Match is our proprietary technology, developed by the YouTube team, for combating child sexual abuse imagery (CSAI) in video content online. It was the first technology to use hash-matching to identify known violative videos and allows us to identify this type of violative content amid a high volume of non-violative video content. When a match of violative content is found, it is then flagged to partners to responsibly report in accordance to local laws and regulations. Through YouTube, we make CSAI Match available for free to NGOs and industry partners like Adobe, Reddit, and Tumblr, who use it to counter the spread of online child exploitation videos on their platforms as well.

Civil rights groups worldwide ask Apple to drop CSAM plans
tylersdad said:mike_galloway said:cjlacz said:Little late for that now. Apple already opened that can of worms (if it is actually a problem) just by announcing it. I'd still kind of like to see this implemented. I think Apple has addressed this as best it can, and governments can mandate that companies scan for this stuff with laws regardless of any prior implementation. Tech has kind of created this problem of sharing these CSAM photos easily. I'd like to see them as part of the solution too.Agreed - our ability to say, post or store online what we want without consequence has gone too far. This has been caused by the tech companies so it’s really up to them to fix it.
'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Congress shall make no laws... I have the right to censor speech in my own home. I get to decide who says what in my business. If you work for me and use my internet access, computer, phone, email, I decide what’s appropriate. I get to censor people on the social media platform I own. Only the government is prohibited by the First Amendment from doing so. And by the way, the government does control speech when it comes to certain situations, like incitement to riot, violence, etc. -
Apple Pay accounted for 92% of US mobile wallet debit transactions in 2020, study says
rezwits said:Totally agree with the above. Just want to say tho, it's absolutely disgusting, how a company like Walmart, SAYS "We're going to make contactless payments with or without 'so-and-so' and we'll do the same thing". This along with other companies, who are:
NOT Flippin' CAPABLE of DOING IT!!!
NOT Flippin' CAPABLE of DOING IT!!!
It's just so stupid how some of these companies don't RESPECT Technological advances, and think they can willy nilly. (It's like M1 even, bah)
And I would love to hear how many of these are from the Watch, OMG I am like 4 out of 5 on watch so...
It's really a crowning achievement by Apple (like said above with NFC being out even b4), to show:
THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT...
all I wanna do is bash tho so I'll stop LOL
But not Walmart, not Home Depot. -
Apple sees rise in departures from Health, iCloud teams

You know, the money you get to pay for life’s necessities: food, housing, healthcare.
Or do you think you get paid for life’s luxuries? 🤣 -
Senate lawmakers introduce bill targeting Apple App Store, Google Play
It’s just a bill, people. Don’t assume it will fly through Congress and be signed by the POTUS tomorrow. Now comes the good part, the behind the scenes cat and mouse game, the lobbyists handing out cash and gifts.
But in the end, if this does pass, I think small developers will get crushed. Why would Apple spend any time or money promoting apps when they can’t profit from it? The big developers will fund their own marketing.
