  • AppleInsider has arrived at Apple Park for today's new iPhone special event

Here I go again with my fanboy response. I don’t expect anything from the AppleInsider/MacRumors/9to5Mac crowds but “meh”, “disappointing”, “boring”, “no thanks”, “fire Tim Cook”, “Apple didn't do what I told them they had to do so they’re doomed”, “no innovation”, “I’ll wait another year”, “no 5G so failure”, the list goes on. Anyone want to challenge my predictions?
I'm a little less pessimistic. While the usual 1-post-wonders will show up to rage out & leave, and the other-brand FUD dispensers will drop some pellets, for the most part I believe AI has a good base of enthusiasts who recognize the value of the products offered.
Well, the one silver lining in the cloud is that the market pays absolutely no attention to these clowns... or to fanboys like me. Tech blog comment sections are completely  useless and irrelevant when it comes to the real market forces.  Apple knows its customers and really doesn’t care what some asshole posts in a tech blog. That crowd has been trying to take Apple down for over forty years now and have nothing to show for it. Nowadays, however, we have the disgruntled “Steve is dead and so is Apple” “community" that is obsessed with nostalgia for the past.

Oh wait, the vent is starting. Bye

It would be a very difficult for the government to prove Apple is harming customers with their App Store. As a generalization, most of the companies complaining owe a large part of their success if not all, to Apple.

I would be interested in data to verify my assumption.

This is not about proof. I’ve always said if they go after Google, then Apple will be next.
Apple has monopoly on??? Apps store? Nope. Search engine? Nope. Social media? Nope. Smartphones? Nope. Watch? Nope. Software? Nope. Laptops? Nope. Smart speakers? HUGE nope.
Those who scream monopoly about Apple just don’t get it. Their argument relies on the false premise that the Apple ecosystem is a market within itself. Years ago they went on and on about how Mac clone makers had the right to compete against Apple and labeled the Mac a monopoly unto itself. Psystar found out the hard way that argument didn’t fly. Now those same arguments are being presented about the App Store. In a real monopoly (like the old AT&T) the consumer has no choice, there is no reasonable competition, and you deal with the only game in town. Nothing could be further from the truth in the mobile market. There are literally hundreds of options, providers, and hardware available to the consumer. Apple is not the only game in town. In fact it could be considered a minor player even with 1.4 billion units in use. People choose to buy Apple products not because they are the cheapest, far from it. They choose Apple because they have made a conscious decision that they WANT to buy Apple and are willing to pay the price. No consumer is “harmed” by choosing Apple because of the App Store.

  • Apple issues statement refuting Google's 'false impression' of iOS security [u]

    Good for Apple.

The importance of Google’s Project Zero cannot be overstated, but the handling of this issue was sloppy and irresponsible. It’s now obvious this was little more than a smear campaign against Apple as the issue was not only fixed in a timely manner 6 months ago, but singling out iOS as the only target was disingenuous when vulnerabilities in Windows and Android were exploited as well.

There is no way the Project Zero team did not know ALL the facts of this “attack” and it’s apparent that Google marketing must’ve stepped in and decided to publicly disclose only certain aspects to disparage iOS.
Go watch Rene Ritchie’s rebuttal on YouTube. Then read Tech Crunch’s take on Google’s Project Zero sins of omission. But the damage is done. It’s out there and every click hungry tech blogger has pounced on it. This was intentional, absolutely no doubt about it. It was a smear campaign pure and simple designed to put FUD in the minds of iOS users. Google itself may or may not have sanctioned the smear campaign but someone is behind it. Someone gave the go ahead to publish this purposely misleading article. It wasn’t sloppy reporting. It was intentional. I’m glad Apple responded but as I said the damage is done.
