  • Obama's 'tone deaf' comments on encryption draw criticism at SXSW

I get the feeling the Gov't is going to force feed this flawed view of 'special access' and when it blows up, gets exploited and millions pay the price, they will blame the technology companies for 'not doing it right'.. foolish, arrogant, and many other words I cannot say here.

  • Company, not Cook, will be held responsible if Apple loses fight over FBI case, experts say

We're no where near there yet though.. Right now, it's an appealable case.. These fines only come into play if they refuse AFTER they loose all options to appeal.. Gov't cannot impost fines until after and if this goes to Supreme Court, looses, and STILL refuses to comply.

This article is nothing but a fear mongering piece. Intentionally builds up the OMG .. then says at the end ... well, they're not likely to go that far. DUR..

"What we are hoping might be on the phone would be potential contacts that we would obviously want to talk to."

Contacts the murderer never, well, actually bothered to, you know, CONTACT, via that same phone? Because any and all "contacts" actually contacted would be present in the electronic service records for the phone already turned over to the FBI by Verizon and Apple would they not?
Exactly.. and its a work phone, they use Exchange mail server which defaults all contacts to be stored on the Exchange Server. Plus, they can get any call logs/records they want from the phone company and access any sites / services they loaded from the phone through the data connection from the Teleco as well. Fact is, they have so many vectors to get at the data, unlocking the phone is mute. This is getting dumber by the minute.

  • Rallies supporting Apple's stance on privacy see lukewarm response

Rallies rarely get anything more than lukewarm unless it's direct 'outrage' .. and those tend to turn into riots.. so.. be happy it's lukewarm.

I hope the US government gives them an ultimatum to pay their taxes that they've been evading for years or deport them all to Ireland
Apple pays more than any other company, an average of 27% in US taxes on all US profits.

The only taxes they pay less on is overseas .. Overseas profits are nontaxable by the US unless they bring that money back. Thats what the repatriation fee is for (The US has the highest repatriation rate in the world at 35%)

Add to the fact that the only money in question on taxes is profits made in the EU. Because the EU has a universal currency. It doesn't impact taxes in China, Japan, Africa, etc, etc. Britain wants it share, but Ireland takes more,.. Basically, it's bickering between members of the EU who should get the taxes and like 2 year olds pointing fingers as the EU universal currency is in trouble.

So, want to explain why/how the US can reach into the EU or another countries borders and charge taxes on profits not made in the US, on money thats not technically backed or controlled by the United States?

Your statement only shows how much you don't understand.
