  • iPhone taken in 'crime spree' and more Capitol rioters arrested in the Apple Crime Blotter...

An Illinois woman told Chicago's CBS affiliate that the Chicago Police Department raided her home in 2019, causing thousands of dollars in damage to a television, a mattress, a mirror, and her daughter's iPad. But, the woman says the police had the wrong house.

The raid, which was attributed to a "bad tip" from an informant, has not resulted in any financial compensation for the woman, who lives in Calumet City outside of the city of Chicago. An insurance claim, she said, was denied because the damage was from a police raid.
Yeah, she's SOL.  Police aren't responsible for damages incurred during their operations, even if they're later found to be based on incorrect information.  Police are under no obligation to investigate whether their information is correct before destroying someone's life or property.

  • Apple tells users to erase, restore iPhone and Apple Watch to fix Workout GPS data bug

Does this solution also work if one chooses to backup to one's local machine instead of iCloud?

But apparently I don't need to, unless it only affects "runs".  My outdoor walks seem to be recording the GPS route just fine.

  • Zuckerberg knocks rumored 'Apple Glass' tech, says HUDs are like 'putting an Apple Watch o...

I have an original consumer edition Oculus Rift.  It's a great piece of kit, a literal game changer.  However, I also now have a Valve Index, and it completely blows the Rift away. And with FB announcing the mandatory shift of my Oculus account to a facebook account, it's made the Rift worthless, IMO.  I'll have to see if I can get some sucker who loves FB to buy it used.

  • Apple releases watchOS 7 update for Apple Watch

All these great features... if you want to use them all, when do you charge your watch battery? Too bad you can’t charge it while you wear it.

It’s more important to me to close my rings everyday, so the watch goes on the charger overnight... so i guess this new great feature to track my sleeping, gets cast aside. 🙄
I have a series 3 (until my new 6 gets here at the end of the month) and my routine is generally to put it on the charger when my alarm goes off in the morning, and take it off between 30 minutes and an hour later, depending on how many times I snooze the alarm, how long it takes for my morning ablutions, etc.  While I don't always have 100% charge when I put it back on, it has never failed to last until the next charge cycle, even on workout days.

And the new 6 claims to be able to fully charge in 90 minutes, so I'm guessing I'll be able to continue that routine just fine.

  • Apple TV with faster processor, 'Find My Remote' tech could launch in 2021

Also, being able to find the remote is just about the least of all the problems I have with the remote.  I hope that isn't the only thing they're adding.
    This.

Of course, for me, finding my Apple TV remote is the easiest thing ever.  It's in the drawer under the TV with no battery in it, because nobody every uses it.  Everybody in the house uses the Harmony app on their phones or iPads.
