  • Apple Twitter account hacked in Bitcoin scam campaign

    ITGUYINSD said:
Interesting that Joe Biden and Barack Obama were targets, but not Donald Trump.  Very interesting, indeed.
Not all that surprising, it's not very credible that he would donate anything or even know what a Bitcoin is.  :)

  • 'iPhone 12' could come with braided Lightning cable, leak claims

They usually age well but out of the 1 iPod, 3 iPhones and 4 iPads, 2 cables frayed :
The Lightning frayed an inch or so whereas the 30-pin frayed for more than half its length, it just dried up and was just crumbling.

They both continued to work a few years afterwards, even after the braided shield frayed as well, until they eventually failed. Mind you the latter was from a 2005 iPod and the former from an original iPad mini. I have no complaints since they gave me many years of reliable service at which point they should ultimately be considered as consumables. Oh, and yes, I always grabbed them by the connector.

  • Congress urges Apple and Google to police foreign apps, app makers

Talk about the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing !
This security committee wants Apple & Google to clamp down on policing while the ongoing antitrust committee wants to lessen their control. I'll bet that the latter won't accept Apple's reasoning that they need control for security and the former won't accept any refusal of policing.
    Strange bedfellows indeed.

  • Should you wait for Apple Silicon to upgrade to a new Mac?

I’ve been waiting a loooong time to finally replace my 2009 iMac i7 and was actually planning on doing that (was hoping this summer), but now I’m just going to order an i7 mini, which will get me by until the ASi iMacs are released.
Same here, my iMac 2009's GPU fried 2 years ago and I've been waiting for what was rumoured at the time to be an imminent design refresh. Had I known it would take this long I would've bought a new one then. I was waiting mostly to have a T2 equipped iMac yet was not tempted with the iMac Pro, more power than I really need or justify. I do remote work so it's mostly a terminal for the time being. The T2 Mac mini was tempting but I still prefer another AIO. I've waited this long I'll probably wait just a bit more for what will be much more than a redesign.

  • Apple Silicon will force industry to reconsider use of Intel chips, says ex-Apple exec

And note: you didn't answer my question. I asked you if Apple was going to make a range of CPUs that meet a range of price, performance and application needs. That is what Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, Samsung and MediaTEK all do and have been doing for DECADES. That is what Apple has never done at any time and there isn't a bit of evidence that they are capable of it.
I guess if you ignore the fact that they're using that EXACT strategy for pricing and positioning the different models of iPhones and iPads in the market
And I guess you are doing your level best to ignore my main argument. Mobile is not PC
Move the goalposts much?   I didn't realize that Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm made PCs.  You were talking about a wide range of CPUs for different needs, not complete devices.  And Apple does indeed have different A processors for different needs.  Even if it's currently only on mobile, there's no reason to believe they won't use the exact same strategy when creating new CPUs for desktop.
Exactly, they have indeed usually used Ax SoCs in iPhone and usually AxX (and now Z) in iPads, which usually have extra GPU cores to accommodate the larger screen. Since they already go to that trouble for some extra pixels in a slightly larger form factor, it is confounding that some people can't see that they will also extrapolate the same logic and scale for even larger form factors and processing needs, particularly since … uhh … Mobile is not PC, well maybe unless one is fixated on using mobile SoCs in a PC. Of course Apple has had its share of mistakes in the past, but not many really dumb ones.
