South Korea ends Apple, Google control of app store payments
It will be interesting to see how this eventually plays out. As it has been discussed many times over. Developer get a lot of value for their 30% they pay to have their apps in the App Store, there is many things Apple handles on behalf of the developers which they do not need to worry about. Then add in all the free developers tools and support they get, I know developers pay a licensing fee, but it is not much.
If Apple is now forced by law to allow developer to process their own payments and not give Apple a cut. Then also allow developer to have their own store, Apple need to start charging developer for all the tool and support. I think Developer will find out real fast what the real cost are, Not only will they have to pay apple for all their developer resources they will still have to pay payment processor as well as some sort of web hosing service to maintain their downloads.
This is like tell every store in the country they can not bar someone from placing their product on your store shelves, and letting the consumer pay the seller directly.

Is it safe to leave your Mac plugged in and always on?
Yep we never shut down our Mac desk top, it only goes to sleep at the end of the day, it can be months before a restart happens. I do from time to time run maintenance utilities to clean up logs files and such and make sure everything is working fine. I have done this for years with no ill effects. We run a 2012 Imac 27" to give you and idea and only had to replace the HDD because it start to die, replaced it with a 2TB SSD and now the computer is like new. Thinking about replacing it with the new OSX 12 coming out which will render the compute obsolete from a software upgrade stand point.
I can tell you PC can not deal with being left on, my work PC has to be shut down all the time otherwise it get laggy or just begins to misbehave

No, Nirvana's 'Nevermind' baby won't trigger Apple's CSAM detection
Japhey said:mike1 said:Is he suing his parents as well. They undoubtedly signed all the required releases. If he didn't pose with the album cover, not a soul in the world would know it was him as a baby.correction: upon further reading, I found that his father actually received $200 for the photo, the same amount Elden himself was paid when he posed again to mark the 2016 25th anniversary of the album.
Also this article is about the fact this image would not be flag with apple image scanning algorithm, it was not about what this kid may or may not have been paid or agreed too. As the article point out images like this are totally legal, artistic nude images are allowed, the problem is who gets to decide what is artistic or what has gone beyond art. Do you want Apple to make that decision or some group of people who believe it their job to rid the world of any images they think child abuse.
I think this law suite is timely to this discussion about whether Apple should be scanning phone, your computer or file stored on their website looking for objectional materials. Apple it claiming the high road and by saying the only comparing to a known CSAM image data base. How do we know what is in that Database, what good is the database if the real evil people are creating new images not in the database.
Face it this is about getting is name back into the news cycle and some how take advantage of this situate to make money, whether from the law suit or he has something else planned. It like the nipple slip of Janet Jackson at the superbowl, that paid big dividends over the years even those the NFL and others were sued by the FCC for her actions.

Civil rights groups worldwide ask Apple to drop CSAM plans
OctoMonkey said:DAalseth said:I can’t believe how badly Apple has bungled this. They used to be masters of controlling the message, but this has been pure amateur hour. They should have foreseen the worries, the criticism, the accusations. Heck people here saw the possible ramifications within minutes of the first article being posted. But no they dropped it, and let the narrative get away from them. Now I won’t comment on if these organizations worries are correct, but Apple has put themselves in a no win situation. If they go ahead with it they will be the company that works with dictators to spy on dissent and activists. If they kill the project they will be the company that supports predators.
Apple has screwed themselves utterly on this one.
Perhaps?
The problem today we have everyone tell everyone else how they should think on lots of various topics to the point if you ask a question or challenge the view point they want to cancel you from existence or make sure you never talk about your views. We have lots of people with bad ideas who do not want anyone knowing their ideas are bad.
