  • Apple's largest supplier reported 24 percent surge in revenues from OLED display, componen...

This actually fits nicely with the rumor Apple is restarting production of the X because it has a glut of OLED panels it was obligated to purchase from Samsung.  If that rumor is true and Samsung had a guaranteed minimum number of panels Apple agreed to acquire then any slowdown in OLED iPhone sales wouldn't affect its revenue in an unanticipated  major negative way.  You wouldn't see the effects on Samsung's revenue until the after the contract was up for renewal as Apple couldn't cut it's order mid-cycle like it can with smaller suppliers.
I working in supply chains in high tech companies and I can tell you this did not happen. First, I do not believe Apple would ever agree to MOQ on any parts, even if they somehow agreed to this without knowing they could not hit it, this would have been negotiated away with the next product they sourced from Samsung. I never seen a situation where a company was force to take product which was not already made. Apple would not have allowed Samsung to continue producing parts knowing full well they plan to do something different in the future. So this does not pass the smell test.

  • How to download your photos now before Flickr deletes them

Its been a long time since I used any of these photo sharing and storage sites but when I did, the one thing that pissed me off was the fact you could not retrieve your full resolution image. If you selected to download the image it would give you a compressed version of the image. If you wanted the original you had to be a paying member. They basically held your original photo's hostage unless you paid them. I had friends who use to download all their photos from their digital camera directly to Flicker and such and did not realize they could not recover their original without paying.

I maintain all my photos and media on multiply backup drives, and I have NAS with 8TB so all my digital content is mine and I do not have to pay someone else to keep it for me.

Also, they are not "tax incentives". They are simply lower taxes = you simply take away less from the business. Because you sound like you give a business someone else's money so they could come over and build stuff. In reality, you let them keep more of their money and call it an incentive.
    Talking about newspeak ...
This is the one thing that gets me that most and people just can't wrap their heads around it.

WI did not "give" Foxconn any money.  They just said "if you build here, we will tax you less".   So they still are making money compared to if Foxconn had not built there, but just not taking in as much taxes.

People be all like "We gave Foxscamm $3 billizillion dollaz!"    No, you gave Foxconn nothing but tax breaks.   Had Foxconn built elsewhere they would pay taxes elsewhere and brought jobs elsewhere.

Yeah, most people have no clue about this, All states and cities do the exact same thing to attract companies to bring jobs to an area.

I worked for a start-up and founders went to the local governments and asked for a tax break to help the company to build a new 500,000 SqFt design and manufacturing facility, all but the local school board got on board (which was the largest tax). The head of the school board accused our CFO of trying to bribe the school board, he use those words in a public meeting. Part of the deal was the company would give the school all the old computers and install a start of the are network and provide IT support in exchange for the tax break. The CFO came back, told everyone at the company what happen, and that fall the school board was up for re-election and the most of the people at the company lived in the school district and we voted out the school board. The new board agreed to the deal and 2 years later the company was bought out for $4B and the CFO returned to the school board and gave them a $30M check as thank you for the tax break.

Also the company moves 1000's of high paying jobs into the area, we paid local and school taxes, we bough homes and paid property taxes and we all shopped in the area. When the company was bought out most of us all had stock options and paid taxes on the capitals gains. The local government and school was making lots of money that was for sure.

  • Tim Cook lambastes Bloomberg for iCloud spy chip report, calls for retraction

We all know Bloomberg is not going to retract the story. They are just going to dig in further since if they admit they were wrong it will go against their credibility.
It goes more against their credibility if they don’t admit their mistake. Mistakes happen. Own up to it and make the changes to their vetting process. That’s what I can forgive. Digging in your heals on false accusations is unforgivable.
Admitting the mistake open them to liability( they will have to prove their case by sharing who their sources are or they knowing publish a story they knew was not true), lawyers run companies like this not altruistic individuals. Same reason Dr and Lawyer will never admit a mistake, the other side has to prove they were wrong. They stuck be a rock and a hard place. I do not see Apple suing them but Supermicro could since their stock tanked because of this.
