'iPhone 12' event announcement expected this week
Why would anyone expect the initial move to be an announcement of exact hardware and specs? They have never done that with the phones or the watch. They always announce the event first. Then the event where they introduce the product comes with an additional announcement about when they will take orders and start fulfillment. Not sure why would anyone speculate that pattern would change.
My wife and I will be getting new phones (12 pro max). We've had our Xs for three years now. I will get a series 6 watch and my wife will inherit my series 4 (her idea, not mine!). I love new hardware and it has been a while. Really looking forward to this. -
Apple's 'Fortnite' takedown will cause incalculable harm to users, says Epic
No way the courts fold on this BS request. Epic created the entire mess all by itself. They chose to sue Apple because they didn't want to live up to the terms of a contract they willingly of their own free will entered into. Screw them.
Their plan to beat Apple into submission was pathetic and poorly thought out. They should have known better. It won't work. Now they are paying the price.
Epic's arrogance got them. Cutting off your nose to spite your face is not a productive strategy. Too bad Epic thought it would be.
They made $750 million last year and were own track according to their own publicly released guidance to make $1 billion in 2020. Just look how they screwed that up, not to mention how what they have done will negatively impact all developers and especially the small ones who don't have the benefit of almost $1 billion in profits to bail out Epics stupidity.
They put a gun barrel in their mouth and pulled the trigger. Now they are surprised about what happened.
Every one of the executives involved in hatching this plan should be terminated without compensation.

Photo quality comparison: Samsung Galaxy Note 20 versus iPhone 11 Pro
chasm said:tommikele said:It makes no sense to compare a newly released Samsung model to an iPhone that will be last year's model in a couple of weeks.Second: The next iPhone will not be out in "a couple of weeks." Try "at least six weeks, possibly longer for some models."
Third: When it comes to taking normal pictures, I think the article shows clearly that the iPhone 11 is still king of the hill by a good margin in the quality of normal photos and panoramas. But it is interesting to note that Samsung has done some quality work here with regards to digital zoom (presumably using AI/ML in post-processing) that I hope Apple will adopt in the iPhone 12. I think the 8K video feature of the S20 Ultra is a gimmick that just eats up your storage for no sound reason, but the day is coming where Apple will need to at least offer 8K video and I hope they are doing the research into the algorithms needed to create that level of video without having to attach a separate (USB-C?) SSD just to accommodate the file sizes.Competition is good, it keeps each company working hard to find new innovations that will draw customers. It makes Samsung better, it makes Apple better.
It will be interesting to see if they expand the second tier of the product line beyond SE. Will they convert 11 into filling the spot Xr has?
Many of us who are very keyed into the technical aspects of devices and the market sometimes forget we are generally not who they are primarily designing for and marketing to. The vast majority just wants as much of the latest and greatest they can figure out a way to pay for. Technophiles are influencers, but not even close to the bulk of the market.
Regardless, I think Apple Insider is just filling the page on a weekend and don't understand the editorial purpose of comparing the new released Samsung flagship to what we know will lose its perch at the top of the iPhone line with in a few weeks. I feel pretty confident they will be reissuing almost the exact same article shortly after 12 is announced. The tech media will get the phone right after the announcement, well before consumers will get deliveries.
Competition is good. I just don't think the two phones in the article are really competing. It's kind of like marketing a 2019 car after you have announced the 2020 version with significant upgrades. Without incentives who is buying the 2019 version? -
