  • Apple raises iCloud+ pricing in the UK and other markets

I'm in the UK and seeing these increases today. Petty convenient that this is happening ONE DAY after the closing down of My Photo stream. lol

One thing that seems strange is that there was no notice period of the increase. I was not informed prices were to rise and I thought that consumer rights in the UK meant that any increase had to be announced 1 month in advance, to give people time to decide weather to cancel or not?

(Oh and I'm wondering why the article cannot use the £ symbol for quoting sterling figures? Seems strange when the $ is used for the US conversion)

FYI, My Photo stream will be closing down on the 26th of July, not June.

  • Jony Ive designed the royal emblem for King Charles' coronation

    No four leaf clovers?   Hmmmm.
Four-leaved clover has nothing to do with being Irish. I’m not sure where the confusion started but certainly not here in Ireland. The shamrock (3 leaves) is our national ‘flower’. That’s why it’s used by Aer Lingus, The Irish Tourist Board and Irish Rugby, for example — always 3 leaves, never four. It’s appropriate to include it in this design since Northern Ireland is, obviously, Irish and is also (currently) part of the United Kingdom.

(I see that skipdeedy has already covered much of this)

Warmest greetings from the Emerald Isle!

The shamrock is an official Irish emblem: https://enterprise.gov.ie/en/what-we-do/innovation-research-development/intellectual-property/trade-marks/state-emblems/

totally unrelated, but…here’s an 8-leaved clover I found a few years ago (yes,  in Ireland)

It’s been so long I’ve almost lost interest
The trick is to rewatch season 1 shortly before season 2 arrives. (But I suspect you already know that!) 😄🤣🙃

  • Apple ditches physical SIM cards from all US iPhone 14 models

so i need to buy an iphone 14 outside the US to be able to use it traveling outside the US?
Not necessarily. Have a look at the carriers around the globe who support eSIMs.

  • Apple preparing iOS 14.8 release as iOS 15 launch nears

Turned off automatic updates … will not be updating to 14.8 and 15..
Apple has become  super creepy… all in a course of one week!!!… They have turend thier mantra completely upside down,  blatetantly saying  FU to every person who believed them on their privacy initiatives .. invested in that initiative and paid premiums  for that initiative ..  ( all down the drain)

From a champion of privacy to the creepiest company who blatently say’s your next version of software will have a built in survaylance spywear.!
    Photos now… what later?

Yes icloud can be turned off..    but that breaks the ecosys.. .. ecosys another selling point of Apple..
Turning off icloud .. also means less storage needs on the cloud… which means i dont need to subscribe to icloud storage space anymore… which hurts revinue and is blatently against shareholder interest.

What the F is going on at Apple!
Perhaps you should watch Rene Ritchie’s careful and detailed explanation of the new feature before you jump to any final conclusions. It’s long because it needs to be but it’s very helpful. I now have a clearer understanding of the whole thing…not perfect, but a lot clearer. Well worth your time.

Full disclosure: I don’t use Facebook, google (except for unsigned-in YouTube viewing) or Amazon services because of my passion for privacy. These companies, and let’s add Microsoft to the mix, have been doing something like this for years, but with far less privacy protection than Apple is proposing, it seems.
