Apple sources 20M face masks, designs and ships face shields for medical workers
ElCapitan said:If these are not masks that Apple somehow magically have come up with independently of all other sources, Apple should get out of the queue of HC institutions and countries across the planet desperately clamoring for such masks on the global market.
20 million masks to Apple means some others needy in another country probably would go short of masks. (that is how brutal the global market for masks is right now)
Having the masks on hand, Apple should donate the masks to the US federal pooled resources so they can be distributed to those needing them most, and get out of the business of virtue signaling. -
Apple closes all retail stores outside of China until March 27
howieisaacks said:H1N1 in 2009 was much worse. Look it up if you've forgotten. It was 11 years ago, so most people don't bother to remember past events to understand the present. Apple didn't close any stores then, and they shouldn't have to now. About 1000 people had died in the US before Obama declared an emergency, and no one in the media or in the Republican Party criticized him for it. Trump shuts down flights from China in January, and then puts in motion a lot of other measures, and they can't stop complaining and politicizing. This. Will. Blow. Over. It's not that big of a deal. It's smart to take precautions, but this isn't any worse than a bad flu outbreak. And that brings me to another point. The flu infects and kills more people every year than corona virus has or likely will. Why don't we call flu a pandemic? Why don't we shut down flights and close Apple stores when the flu season starts? Some will disagree with me on this, but flame away all you want. I'm right. It's annoying how people forget what happened before. I didn't stop going to shopping malls, flying, or anything else after 9/11, and I will not allow this to make me live my life any different. I always practice good hygiene. When I'm at the gym I use hand sanitizer a lot. I just practice common sense. -

Corona killed what, less than 100 Americans? Swine Flu killed 23,000 Americans, nothing. Measles? Nothing. H1N1? Nothing. EBOLA? Not a damned thing.
One basketball player gets a cold and the whole country loses its f#$(%(& mind.
Glad I have cash on hand because the market is having the sale of the century, and all its going to cost is the economy, and thousands of jobs.
Shame on all of you lemmings who are playing along. -
iPhone 11 is second-best selling smartphone globally in 2019
coolfactor said:StrangeDays said:Oh but there's no more innovation! Apple needs to copy the copiers!
This is getting tiring.
iOS (and macOS and tvOS and watchOS and iCloud) are unmatched by the competition. It's not just about one OS in and of itself, but the whole package. Apple HAS innovated tremendously across platforms like no other company has, because at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the user experience. Not feature X or Y, but true usability and reliability.
Who cares if Company A takes a feature from Company B. If it's a great idea, it's a great idea. Seems to me that iOS 13 is the gold standard and Android developers are working very hard to create a similar experience, right down to the appearance of the user interface and gestures. Apple seems to be setting the bar that the industry is reaching for, even though people claim that Apple is "copying" this and that. The only thing that matters is execution. -
Apple will miss quarterly guidance & iPhone sales estimates because of coronavirus
tmay said:This is an important statement to make at this time, not just for financial reasons, but to acknowledge that Apple will be acting with appropriate caution in reopening its retail and manufacturing operations in China.
