  • Intel targets M1 weaknesses in 'You're not on a Mac' ad campaign

Usually I see government industrial subsidy as a good thing but… I have a question. Five years ago the technology to do what TSMC was doing existed since as they were doing it. Instead, the US chip companies rested on there laurels, thinking what they were doing as good enough and could not even develop the capability to do what TSMC was doing. Now the IS chip companies are 5 years behind and crying for help from the government to do what they couldn’t/didn’t do 5 years ago.  So, why were they not developing this technology 5 years ago? Then  would have continued to be a leader in the industry and not require government assistance to catch up. (This from a life long liberal)

Intel Acknowledges It Was ‘Too Aggressive’ With Its 10nm Plans

I don't think they were resting on their laurels. They were actually trying to get to 10nm too early and weren't able to deliver. Which was followed by years of delays...

This is from July of last year..

"This requires a bit of a disclaimer. There does not exist a universal standard to labeling nodes, and the measurement only tells part of the story. Generally speaking, Intel's 10nm node is comparable to AMD's 7nm tech. So in that regard, Intel isn't as far behind as it may seem".

"Nevertheless, the point is, AMD is now the one that is pushing the envelope and leading on process technology, rather than the other way around. Had things gone to plan for Intel, it would have been at 10nm on the desktop five years ago, with a dual-core version of Cannon Lake. Yes, in 2015! A series of delays ultimately derailed Cannon Lake altogether, and the only 10nm parts now and on the immediate horizon are laptop CPUs (Ice Lake currently, and Tiger Lake soon). Getting to 10nm on the desktop is still a year away."

  • Third-generation Apple TV to lose CBS All Access support in March

I find this sort of thing frustrating as Apple was selling these up until fairly recently and people generally don’t cycle in new TV hardware that often. This this had an A5 processor in it, I don’t imagine that the A5 couldn’t handle the stream, I suspect it was more that CBS didn’t want to risk paying a cut to Apple on as many devices.
Fairly recently? ATV 3rd gen and was phased out by Apple in 2016. It's initial release was 2012?  If you bought any after that it was simply clearing inventory. I grabbed a couple refurbished from Apple for $59.00 back then. How long is long enough to support a nearly 9 year old device?

Do you really believe that there are that many CBS All Access/Paramount+ subscribers using a 3rd gen ATV that CBS was actually worried about paying apple a cut? I sure don't.. B)

I am not even sure what that cut is considering it's a rebranded service that already exists on the ATV? Maybe it costs more to have apple push the app to the device rather than downloading it from the app store? I think CBS may be looking for a consistent experience across all devices and the old IOS on the ATV3 cannot deliver that.

  • Cryptocurrency should be Apple's future financial gambit, analyst says

Digital currencies are likely a fad where they are not being used for illegal maneuvers. To what degree they are legit - who knows. And they are going to come under way more scrutiny as time goes on for illegal use. I think it wise to steer clear until there is a clear path on how this grift plays out.

  • YouTube cutting off third-gen Apple TV channel in March

No prob. Just airplay from the iPod. Prefer the old remote. And concurrently play card games on the iPad. Apple tv still works, no plans to replace.
3rd gen silver remote works with the Appletv 4K as well. I have my father use that since he has a bit of hard time with the touch control.

  • Apple rumored to invest $3.6B in Kia to produce 100,000 'Apple Cars' per year

I wonder how much the Kia name will affect the whole image of the Apple car. Kia may be a fine producer of cars, I don’t know, but I believe it”s seen as producing inexpensive cars for the lower sector of the market. Even if Apple has full control of every aspect of the design and manufacture, will people be able to disassociate it from the Kia brand?
Top of the line Kia Stinger GT2 is $52,000 USD. Telluride SUV us nearly 50k USD at it's top trim as well. They aren't a luxury brand for sure but they have started to make some higher quality pricier vehicles. iPhones are made by Foxconn I think the average person doesn't really care about that as long as they know Apple designed it.  This is different though and it's KIA brand as you memtioned. I think that the car will be expensive no matter who makes because it's Apple and it will no doubt be premium.  If they would go with a high end manufacturer it may push the price too high?
