  • Tim Cook, Eddy Cue exposed to coronavirus at birthday party

    Maybe I'm just anti-social

But, I have this non-PC practice.  When I feel sick (ie. hung-over, nauseous, diarrhea, runny nose, headaches, fever or just am not feeling up to my normal level of performance); I DO NOT go to work.  I DO NOT go to parties.  I DO NOT associate with other people, and this means I DO NOT even go to Church.

No, I stay home, rest and isolate myself (except for my poor wife, who is very supportive), and do my best to recover.

I do this quite intentionally - so as to NOT expose other people to whatever I have.  When I am sick, I do not feel social.  Judging from the way people are behaving, I must be a selfish person; because we see idiots who are confirmed with this virus, who intentionally fly on commercial airlines, who go to conventions, and even go to work.

What is wrong with these people?

I agree with you.. I work in a building with around 800 people.  It is ASTONISHING how many people follow almost no germ etiquette. I am talking just normal day to day sickness and bathroom use.. not specifically now with COVID-19.

Unfortunately it looks like even folks with no symptoms are able to spread this more than they originally thought....

"it's become clear that transmission by people who are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic is responsible for more transmission than previously thought."

"We now know that asymptomatic transmission likely [plays] an important role in spreading this virus," said Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.
Osterholm added that it's "absolutely clear" that asymptomatic infection "surely can fuel a pandemic like this in a way that's going to make it very difficult to control."

  • Corellium exploits iOS jailbreak to install Android on iPhone

When I buy an iPhone, I don’t see a clause about “planned obsolescence”.  But in fact, after a few years, the new iOS versions and apps can’t be installed in the older iPhones. Virtually, Apple has disabled older iPhones from functioning. It is planned obsolescence.

If the current IP laws don’t allow installation of an Android to current iPhone versions that I respect. But it’s also a monopolistic practice that law makers should protect the consumer rights.

I am not sure I understand? Iphone 5s got 6 years of updates before it was cut off?  It didn't cease to function.. It may not be able to be able to handle all of the things software wise the new phones can but it doesn't just cease to operate like there is a built in timer that stops all functionality as you claim..

Virtually, Apple has disabled older iPhones from functioning. It is planned obsolescence.

Example - My macs at home are a mid 2011 Mac Mini that I use as a home server, web browser and for occasional work email and spreadsheets. I also have a mid 2011 Macbook Air that I used for the same reasons ( My main work machine is a windows laptop provided by my company ). Both machines were added to the vintage and obsolete list in Nov 2017. They can no longer update the newest OS but they still both work just fine and still are receiving security updates until later this year I believe.

What is your expectation in regards to length of time a product should be supported? Also just to reiterate the devices do not cease to function.. that is simply false.

  • Streaming now accounts for 79% of US music industry revenue, RIAA says

Apple is probably not in second place when you look at revenue from streaming -- they're probably in first place. Spotify has more "paid" users, but a huge number of them are subsidized users who aren't actually paying directly -- its part of their cell phone bill. To date, Spotify has been unable to turn a profit with all those users -- suggesting the income-per-user average is low (and that's with Spotify still in court for not paying all royalties!).

Apple's subscriptions are full cost (across the single/family/student tiers), which allows them to, you know, pay artists. In fact, AM pays the highest rate of royalties among the various streamers. Given the growth and profitability of Services at Apple, I feel confident saying that at present there is only one or maybe twos streaming music service making a profit, and I doubt Amazon Music or YouTube Music is in the black yet.

I saw this coming but seriously how far ahead was iTunes compared to...... whoever was 2nd place?

At the time Itunes launched in 2001 was there another application and store that they were competing against? I don't even remember anymore?  Until iTunes I never purchased any music outside of my local brick and mortar shop.

  • 'AirPods Pro Lite' allegedly very close to production

I just don't get the purpose of this product?  I was one of the people that couldn't wear the original style Airpods because they just didn't work for my ears.  I waited years for the canal style that is currently the pro form factor.

I wasn't waiting for noise cancellation or transparency mode I was waiting for Airpods that fit..so introducing this new lite version at a lower price point is kind of frustrating if it's true.  I am sure I am not the only person that would feel this way if these are actually announced and released?   I LOVE my Pros, and I love Santa for getting them for me.. B) but this just doesn't sit right with me if true..

....what? You absolutely get the purpose of it. You JUST described yourself as literally the customer for it.

All you wanted was in-ear style fit. You didn't care about the other features of it that drive the prices up. What you wanted was the cheaper version of AirPods Pro without the noise cancellation.

"Doesn't sit right with me"...you mean the fact that Apple releases the high end model first, and then the low end model later, like they do with almost every single product? Get over it.

I don't need to get over anything.. I was simply giving an opinion about possibly announcing and releasing nearly the same product at a lower price in leas than 6 months.

According to the article it may even have some of the same features as the Pro's .. possibly since it is a rumor ( yes SpamSandwhich I am quite aware this all a rumor, just like the lower priced Homepod Mini ).

While it could provide some of the key Pro features like active noise cancellation, no information has floated about what the personal audio accessories will offer to consumers.

What I said was I wasn't waiting for the other features I was waiting for them to fit.. I didn't say I didn't want or didn't care about the other features.. I got the Pro's for Christmas so the frustration I was referring to was for folks who paid full price such a short time ago, not me personally since I mentioned them being a gift for Christmas. Price overall for these has been a point of contention for a lot of people from what I have seen here and other forums. So some folks may feel slighted if they release these so soon.. As in the case of the iPad 3 and 4 released only about 6 months a part years ago.

Personally I feel the price is right for the technology using the Sony WF-1000XM3 for comparison of features and price.

In the case of the Airpods Apple didn't release a high end product first. they have actually gone up on Price from the original, to the 2nd gen and now the Pros.

I guess my post got taken a bit differently than what I was thinking when writing it..  Didn't expect to get jumped all over for it.. sheesh.  I have the Pro's and love them.. Apple can release whatever the hell they want. I will make sure I have my coffee before I start posting from now on.. Haha

    Enjoy your Friday  B)
