Rumor: Apple developing 'AirPods Pro Lite' headphone model
beowulfschmidt said:Have they un-nerfed the ANC in the AirPods Pro? I haven't been paying attention since they did that, but if they've fixed it, I might consider them again.
Firmware update 2C54 affected the ANC and was quickly pulled by Apple. It got on to some users Airpods back on 12/16 before being pulled and replaced with the previous 2B588 firmware. I received mine on Christmas day and was on 2B588 out of the box. In between that time I exchanged the original pair I had for another issue I was having and the new set is still on firmware 2B588. I don't believe ANC performance is an issue on this firmware..

Amazon maintains massive lead over Apple in US smart speaker market
hodar said:I have a HomePod for the downstairs TV. I am less than impressed. For the price, I have seen similarly priced Visio Sound bars that outperform the HomePod as used as an external TV speaker. In my use case, the HomePod was purchased to link with the AppleTV, to provide a better sound for watching TV.
As a single unit, the HomePod sounds pretty good, playing music - but does not do as well reproducing dialog as a primary speaker for TV/movies. The sound is muddled, and the vocals unclear - the build-in sound from my 2003 Panasonic Plasma TV does vocal and dialog sound from the shows better. This is disappointing.
Most Home Theater units, including every iPhone, iPod and iPad have a built-in equalizer, to set the levels for different types of music (i.e.. jazz, classical, rock, etc.) and a home theater will also include EQ settings for movies, sports, etc. The HomePod has no such setting at all. Why?
I am so confused by this.. Is and was the Homepod marketed for Home Theater? I have had one since launch and watched the Keynote when it was announced and do not recall ever seeing that?I know folks here wanted to try that out with stereo pairing mode to see how it worked for movies and TV, but never have I seen anything from apple that suggests this using the HP in this way. So I think that is why you aren't seeing the settings that you are looking for.

Apple lays groundwork to use iPhone as a car key via NFC
boxcatcher said:ITGUYINSD said:Well that just saved me $70000+ (that I don't have in the first place)! I could not buy a car that doesn't have CarPlay.
CarPlay became necessary b/c most car companies treated the info system as an afterthought and/or don’t have nearly the software talent that Apple could muster, resulting in years of absolutely poop in-car info/mapping systems.
This simply does not apply to Tesla.

Google Maps turns 15, rolls out new app features
Fatman said:Hopefully this puts a fire under Apple - but Im not going to hold my breath. Apple Maps needs a better feedback system for corrections to their data, enhanced business info, gas pricing, and a Waze-like crowd sourcing for hazards/traffic/police sightings. Maybe 5 years from now we'll see those features added? Why would Google maps being around for 15 years put a fire under Apple? You are making it seem as if Apple maps hasn't improved exponentially since it's 2012 debut? I would like to see some more Waze like features as well in Apple maps..but asking if we will see these in 5 years still insinuates Apple maps is inferior or not adding enough features quickly enough... which I don't feel is the case at all.I can only speak for my personal use here in the states.. I am not sure how the AM experience is in other parts of the world. -
FBI Pensacola investigation still hasn't accessed shooter's iPhone
viclauyyc said:Given FBI has so many tools they had used in the past. Not to mention they can get help from NSA. I highly doubt they can’t access the phone. It is more like they makeup an excuse to make apple to build a back foot in the iOS.Also, if I am going to commit such horrible crime, I will surely wipe my phone before doing it.Or use a disposable prepay ( Burner ) phones because people, even terrorists and criminals realize smartphones hold way to much information.People aren't complete idiots all the time and with all the news coverage will stop, or have stopped, using iPhone or smart phones in general for criminal discussions.
