Apple News+ publishers see subscriber benefits amid low revenue
hmlongco said:I read News al the time. But I dropped my initial subscription to News+ as I found that I disliked paging through magazines in the hopes of finding something interesting and that I especially disliked having to skip over page after page of magazine advertising.
I prefer the more curated experience of News, and only rarely do I stop and see an article that's only available in News+ that I want to read.
Most of the problems would be solved if Apple would simply do an Apple "Prime" subscription service with an Apple Music, TV, News, Arcade and iCloud storage bundle. Be glad to pay, say, $199 a year for it.
I would jump on an all in one subscription like you mention..

Apple among companies sued over 'brutal' child labor
spice-boy said:wood1208 said:If this guy Terrence Collingsworth is so cared of younger people working and making living to feed themselves and family than he should give his own money to them. If he is lawyer than must not be making enough living. So is it them working at such a young age or the conditions that make it wrong? Once upon a time kids had to work here and other countries out of necessity. Father dies suddenly oldest brother goes to work to help the family survive.Family earnings from quarrying may be barely sufficient to cover basic needs and money earned by children can be an important part of a household’s income. It may even mean the difference between eating and not eating on a given day.Do I agree with kids having to risk their lives to work long hours and risk being exposed to god know what in the air absolutely not.. These big companies should be using their influence and make a HUGE effort to not use anything that comes from these children's blood, sweat and tears . but unfortunately there is still a need for families to survive so I think this practice will never end. It's a sad vicious cycle. Some people even see it as imposing western will in places that we shouldn't. Make the conditions safe, but allow kids to still earn and help their family. It all seems INSANE to me, Kids should learn and relax and have fun whenever possible... but I have also come to realize the whole planet doesn't operate the same or have the same morals as we do here in the USA or other Westernized countries.Do parents whose offspring work love their kids any less? No. Many of these children work simply to make their families’ ends meet, poor families whose income is around the subsistence level often have little choice. We easily forget that child labour was commonplace in western societies before they were affluent. For instance, nearly half of the workforce in British cotton mills in the early 19th century consisted of children.

Apple supplier Japan Display bailout talks could be worth $830M
martinxyz said:Reminds me of the story of the sapphire company that borrowed a lot of money in response to Apple orders, real or imagined. The bankruptcy was real, though.I don't think that was quite the story..GT Advanced was charged with fraud earlier this year..The Securities and Exchange Commission has charged GT Advanced Technologies and its former CEO with misleading investors about the company’s ability to supply “sapphire glass” for Apple’s iPhones. They also didn't borrow money they took advanced payment from Apple and were never able to meet the technical standards or performance targets they promised. So when the performance targets and specs weren't met Apple withheld payment. On earnings calls in the second quarter of 2014, however, Gutierrez falsely stated that GT expected to hit performance targets and receive the fourth installment payment from Apple by October 2014. GT ended up filing for bankruptcy shortly after, which the SEC says resulted in "significant investor harm."

Apple Watch so huge, it has eclipsed 'peak iPod'
tht said:dewme said:The feeling of untethered liberation one feels when using the Apple Watch with AirPods to listen to music is hard to describe.I was thinking last night that it would be kind of cool if Apple released an update to the iPod Nano, perhaps called the iPod Pico, that would be based on the AirPods Pro platform with several gigs of music storage directly on the headphones. No other device required once the "Pico" is loaded, not even an Apple Apple. Of course the UX would be via Siri and taps on the Pico.Well, I’m confused about what you are saying. At some point, Apple can put 4, 8, 16 GB of NAND in the AirPods, ship an AirPods app like the iOS Watch app, and people can transfer audio to the AirPods. So, yes, the may go there if it is more efficient than streaming from the host device, and if there is a market of people who want to go around with just AirPods.
Not sure what you mean by iPod Pico, other it just being AirPods with user addressable storage in it. I do think an Apple Music specific client device would be an interesting product. You buy the product, no contracts, no dealing with the carrier, enter your Apple Music credentials, and away you go. The monthly Apple Music subscription pays for the cellular data service (like Kindles cellular data). A modern iPod like device, that gets all its playable content from Apple Music, and maybe podcasts too.
If I am understanding the OP correctly... I think the "Pico" would actually be a set of headphones ( Airpods ) marketed as an iPod, with internal storage built into the Airpods themselves.
