BMW says annual $80 CarPlay fee needed for ongoing testing & development
rob53 said:My Alpine aftermarket head unit includes wireless and they never charge for updates. Actually I don’t think I’ve ever gotten an update and I’ve had it for two years. I’m sure BMW charges more up front for their head unit than Alpine charges for theirs.
Found this response on Crutchfield's forum asking about firmware updates. This might be accurate but multiple people said the same thing:
"The beauty of CarPlay is that you don't need to update the headhunt. The headhunt displays what the phone wants it to. Thus when you get a new iPhone or iOS update it just works. Any software improvements are done on the phone not the head unit."
If this is accurate, then what is BMW thinking they need to update on their head unit????? I presume Android Play works the same way.BMW's controversial annual and lifetime subscription fees for Apple CarPlay are because of the demands of ongoing software testing and engineering, the automaker says. From what I see it isn't even specifically for updates.. What software testing and engineering is BMW doing in regard to Apple's Car Play? Seems like a BS charge.. like the universal tax you pay for having a phone line in your home.. nobody can explain exactly what the surcharge is for, but it needs to be paid.. hahaha.. wow.

Equifax can't pay the $125 you expected, and you probably don't want its credit monitoring...
mead2 said:The credit monitoring for 4 years is from Experian. 6 years if you choose Equifax. I would think most people would choose the Experian option for obvious reasons. https://www.equifaxbreachsettlement.comWhat does at least 4 years through Experian mean exactly? Is it 4 years or not ? Haha What a joke..You still have to give a LOT of personal info through the Equifax website in order to set up the monitoring with Experian. I started to fill it out form for myself because I got the notice that I was involved back when this all originally came out.. Then I was like ... wait a minute do I want to give all of this info to them after what already happened?- At least 4 years of three-bureau credit monitoring, offered through Experian. You can also get up to 6 more years of free one-bureau credit monitoring through Equifax.
- If you already have credit monitoring services that will continue for at least 6 more months, you may be eligible for a cash payment of up to $125. The amount that you receive may be substantially less than $125, depending on the number of claims that are filed.

Apple begins limiting Apple Music free trial period to one month
GeorgeBMac said:mjtomlin said:jdw said:LOL. I've known about Apple Music's first 3 months free deal since the debut, but I've never had any desire to try it. Why? I've always been happy to buy music, and I'm not a big fan of the modern stuff coming out anyway. This is probably true of many people in my age group (48 and up). Then again, I don't even own AirPods, so I'm clearly not a huge music fan. Even so, I'm curious as to the average age of Apple Music users.
I’m 47 and still listen to new music. For someone like me who listens to music all the time (have several AirPlay speakers set up all over the house) it is definitely worth the $10/month. Even more so considering I like pretty much like all genres of music and would cost me a fortune to purchase 1% of what I listen to.

They ( Apple ) recently added some live albums from 2000 that I attended.. These Discs are out of print at this point and the originals that I owned were damaged years prior so I didn't have good copies anymore. It was amazing to see them pop up recommended for me.As far as modern stuff there are albums that are fun to listen to for a month or three, but not really needed for my permanent collection. I have 15k songs from my own collection in Itunes match as well. So I don't mind letting these artists make some money from my streams for however long I listen to their stuff. I have a family plan so my GF same age as me uses AM every day, as well as my old brother who is 56.. he is a HUGE Parliment Funkadelic fan.. -
2020 iPhone may adopt iPad Pro-style ProMotion displays
Roy Murray said:The Jony Ive notch will be a joke in years to come. I won't buy another iPhone until they lose it. I agree that 120 Hz is wasted on an iPhone.Do you own an IPad Pro? Have you ever used a Pro Motion display? Everything on screen appears much smoother and realistic. It also makes text that is scrolling r moving easier to read. Things don't move across the screen in a blur.Having felt unsure about the notch I can assure you that Face ID is TOP NOTCH all the time, and the notch isn't even noticeable. I watch a lot of video on my Xs Max and have never felt the notch to be intrusive. It sounds like you have never used either of the devices I have mentioned so to call the tech a joke is kind of silly and short sighted in my opinion.
