  • Editorial: Why Apple created Apple TV+ rather than buying Netflix

    Latko said:
Every substantiation mentioned here indicates that they’re simply too late, given their ambitions. Same for Music Streaming, and Project Titan soon.
How exactly are they too late in regard to music streaming?  Also with no actual confirmed details of PT who are you comparing them too to say Apple is too late?  Did I miss something?

I haven't tried this game, but I remember Atari having a game called paperboy back in the eighties.

A relative of my spouse was asking for help limiting what her teenage son could do. I told her to look at Screen Time. That didn’t work for her. It turned out she wanted to be able to see what “snaps” he was sending and receiving so she could monitor that.

On one hand that seems invasive. On the other hand, my friends and I didn’t do such a thing when we were young but that’s likely because there wasn’t an easy way to do it like there is today. Maybe that sort of monitoring deserves some attention.
That relative is paying the bills, if her minor son isn't doing things the right way cut him off. Very simple.k
Easy to say "cut him off" -- proving you shouldn't have kids.

Parenting is not so much hard as there are many goals, sometimes competing, raising children. Good parents are not hard asses and dictators; we nudge, encourage, shift responsibilities, teach, guide, protect. Bullying and body slamming your kids if they don't what you say is not good parenting -- not even being a good person.
Taking phone privileges for a time from a child that isn’t doing what they are supposed to is bullying?

That’s called having a consequence for an action. There is a whole lot of nudging and responsibility shifting going on rather than consequences with kids these days. You don’t have to be dictator or body slam any child to show them right from wrong and help them understand how to respect and adhere to rules that you as a parent have in place. Just my opinion ...

  • Parental control apps clap back at Apple statement on MDM technology

    Ok man....AppleInsider....“clap back”  seriously?

What’s next “gonna throw some shade”?

Hahaha  Seeing the "Clap Back"  made me think I was reading an article on Yahoo.  Please AI no more catchphrase crap. Takes away from the article.

  • The truth about what's actually good and bad about Apple News+

    MicDorsey said:
My local library offers a fabulous collection of magazines via RB Digital (formerly Zinio) for FREE. Yours probably does, too. The library also has ebooks, audio, and most notably Kanopy for movies. All free. As for "the truth," puhleeze! It's your analysis, which qualifies as opinion. Let's get off our high horse.
So reporting bugginess and crashing experienced while using the app isn't the truth, it's just an opinion? Did I miss something?

All of this is frustrating, but it doesn't stop you getting sucked into enjoying reading the service. What does stop you are the crashes. Right after its initial launch, Apple News+ was prone to crashing and that appeared to be fixed. Yet we've had that reoccur and with no apparent underlying cause like an update to the app or to iOS.

In our experience, crashes are related specifically to Apple News+ itself, not the rest of the Apple News app. Consequently, we could carry on reading the app's Today recommendations and all of the non-subscription titles.
