  • Facebook shutters news rather than pay up under new Canadian law

Having your news on Facebook can only help most online publishers who depend on traffic to drive their advertising revenues. Those that don't primarily depend on ads will have paywalls that will prevent users from getting free content. Thus the notion that news outlets are somehow being "ripped off" by Facebook is absurd.

With that context, it's obvious that this is a play from publishers to get additional revenue from a company that has deep pockets. Nothing wrong with that, its free enterprise, but in this kind of power play you better make sure that the company that you are trying to put the squeeze on needs you more than you need them.

  • Weak demand for MacBook, Apple Watch, AirPods may have caused order cuts

If it’s January it must be time for Apple low-demand rumors. As someone else mentioned guess what it’s after Xmas, of course demand is going to drop.

Nice illustration of how apple silicon blows intel out of the water in performance per watt. Intel can only compete in performance by scorching laps.
Agree. It’s so nice to be able to use Apple Silicon laptops actually on my lap without a lap desk to insulate against the heat!

Size matters! I mean Macbook Air screen size to at least 141." if not larger.
I just got my 14" MBP (32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, 24-core GPU) and the screen size and resolution are much better than my old 13" MBP. Screen area on my old 13" was very cramped. I think 14" with high-resolution screen is the sweet spot.

I am calling bovine feces on this person’s story. I do know a lot of people whom I tried in vain to convince not to use a simple four digit passcode such as 1111 or 1234. They tend to be GEN Xers or older and “couldn’t be bothered with the finicky, difficult aspects of technology“ to choose a better six digit pass code. These are also the people who never know their Apple ID password. Very frustrating!
Gen-X graduated college in the 90’s and helped build the modern Internet economy. We know how to use passcodes. Knowing how to share TikTok over iMessage does not mean that you are tech-savvy.
