  • Compared: iPhone 8 versus iPhone SE

It’s identical to the iPhone 8 in most ways. Upgraded with A13, WiFi 6, dual SIM, and a 256GB option. And starts $50 cheaper.

The only advantage that the iPhone 8 has is availability in more colors.  So, why would you buy an iPhone 8?

I’m writing this on my SE.  I love this device!  Can’t wait for a new one!

If the new rumors are true just get an iPhone 8.

That is probably bad advice, since the rumored price for the new iPhone SE is lower than the current iPhone 8 price. And even if it was the same price, the performance gain alone would be worth it, as well as the longevity, since the iPhone 8 will only be supported for a few more years, at most.

  • Apple releases iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4, watchOS 6.2, tvOS 13.4, macOS 10.15.4

Well, iOS 13 was a mess when it came out, and Apple released 13.1.1 and 13.1.2 releases within two weeks. I finally installed it when it reached 13.1.3. It has had some issues, but nothing earth-shattering.

Is iOS 13 finally safe to install on devices where we’ve been holding off on it due to the utter mess it has been so far?
I've been using iOS 13 since the day it was released and I think your statement is utter nonsense. I'm sure you called iOS 12 an utter mess too, and 11, and 10, and 9. Phooey on your question. If one post here says it's still a mess you won't install it?

    No iCloud backup?
If you have it set to upload your photos to iCloud, I believe you can set it to only do it with WiFi.  They may not have had a chance to be on WiFi during the time between the Halloween party and the dunk in the lagoon.

Yes. Manually back up at any time with Wi-Fi.
iCloud backup will only happen automatically if:

    1) Automatic backup is enabled
    2) The iPhone is connected to power
    3) The iPhone is connected to WiFi
    4) The screen is locked

So, even if #1 was enabled, sitting in the bottom of the lagoon would only result in #4, and possibly #3, if they joined the iPhone to the Disney WiFi network, although the signal would probably get attenuated quite a bit by the water.   But, regardless, it didn’t have #2

  • Wi-Fi 6E will use 6GHz spectrum, pending regulatory approval

It’s really stupid that they came up with that lame “WiFi x” naming convention to make it easier for people to understand, even to the point of re-naming the older WiFi standards. And then...WiFi 6E?

And, of course, to take advantage of the new frequencies and channels, the Access Point infrastructure (and controllers) will need to be upgraded, and only new WiFi devices will take advantage of it. In the early days, when there were few standards, it wasn’t a big deal.  But now, with so many standards, that are ‘mostly’ backward compatible, the drive to upgrade infrastructure and replace client devices is reduced.
