Why iPad Pro's LiDAR is a big step for Apple in computer vision and AR
The title is justified.
The background provides context. Apple works very hard to focus on key technologies with long term value for Apple, their customers, and third party developers. Apple does not chase fads, wasting everyones resources, or putting products in consumers hands that won't work out.
One proof is that used iPhones retain their value better than used Android phones. That's not hate. The data says iPhones retain about 15% more value at 12 months or 24 months.
The bigger story in ROI for developers. 23 million are registered with Apple. Apple gives them ARkit, powerful but not compromising users security; Plus a great demographic in size and in purchasing power. Apple's App Store delivers these customers to developers on a sliver platter.
Below the surface, Apple's chip design and partnership with TSMC means continued high performance, competitively priced systems for years to come.
