  • Nintendo's 'Super Mario Run' for iPhone requires a persistent internet connection for play

The hackers who wormed their way into Pokémon Go ruined the experience for me. How can I honestly compete with cheaters, if I'm walking my butt around town, taking gyms, just so some weenie sitting on his couch can just take it back without even leaving his house? Whatever they can do to limit this kind of stuff is great, as far as I'm concerned. Normally the data required for a connection for this type of game is negligible and we really shouldn't see it hog our data allotments. I am still very much on board with this game. Looks awesome.

  • iPhone 7 solid-state home button works on capacitive touch, gloved users beware

Why not use the on/off switch on the side to activate the screen?
Why not read the article before posting?

With a physically depressible home button, gloved hands can wake iPhone, return to home, invoke Siri and perform other OS actions with ease. Not so with iPhone 7.

    There are 2 buttons:
      1. Home (in front)
      2. Lock (on side)

This article is about button #1, whereas shikotsumyaku was referring to button #2. I believe shikotsumyaku is correct that using the side-mounted Lock button is a good workaround because it DOES respond to physical pressure.

Even better solution = the new "Raise to Wake"; thI s means you don't have to press ANY button to see the Lock screen (which is all you could see with previous iPhone if wearing non-capacitive gloves).
If you are someone, like me, who is often wearing gloves due to their job or other reason (there are many), you have to turn off Touch ID and instead use a passcode to secure your phone. There is currently no (convenient) way to reach the passcode entry screen without using the home button.

Further, I'm sure I don't need to tell you that the home button does more than activate the lock screen. The sleep/wake button isn't a solution to these issues. That's not to say it couldn't be utilised for some more of the home button's functionality in a software update.
Fair enough, mobius. Curious though, what good is getting to the password unlock screen with a glove on if the screen won't read your numerical inputs? I have an iPhone 6, is there a way to do that that I'm missing? Also, from the lock screen what features does physically depressing the home button offer you that tilt to wake and hey Siri don't? I'm not asking to be facetious or a dick or anything, I'm honestly just curious in case I'm missing out on some functionality I don't know about. Winter is coming, after all.

  • Review roundup: iPhone 7 is the greatest iPhone yet, but lack of the headphone jack is annoying

Bluetooth is nice, but so is a headphone jack. without buying something I can not listen to wired headphones and charge my phone. I do interact with people much at work, and listen to headphones 70% of the work day.

My typical day in relation to headphones:
Go to gym, use bluetooth headphones, go to work, iphone battery about 80% at beginning of day.
plug in headphones, and charge phone, listen to headphones most of the day.
Any home chores like mowing the lawn are bluetooth headphones
go to bed, listen to audio book - fall asleep. (Have you ever fallen asleep listening to Bluetooth headphones? when the battery runs out it beeps and you think your house is on fire.)
So if Im not charging my phone over night, or at work, when am i charging it? I guess Ill have to buy a dock. (or wait a year and see if the jack comes back)

I hope the Air pods sound better than the wired apple provided headphones - not that I am likely to buy them at $160 anyway. Im also not sure about the completely un-wired headphones, It just gives me another opportunity to lose one.

The W1 chip does sound interesting, but if it stays proprietary there will never be inexpensive alternatives to beats/apple. I look forward to seeing what advantages the new technology has, but I am skeptical.

Fair enough. But I don't believe the jack will be coming back next year. Instead, I am quite certain there will be a plethora of fairly-priced options available to choose from that will allow you to charge and listen to wired headphones if that is what you need to do. I personally feel that the dock option is far too bulky for people that will need it, but someone will release a sleekly-designed adapter that will look and work great.

Sorry for just quoting you and re-posting, it wouldn't let me add my bit underneath.

All I wanted to say was that I totally agree with you, SOG. I haven't used the headphone jack since I purchased my iPhone 6 the day after it was released. All it has done is collect lint inside. I've been using a Beats Pill to listen to music while at home and my new car has Bluetooth. Even in my 10 year old truck I don't use the headphone jack, but instead an FM transmitter that hooks into the Lightning port. Oh, and we just bought an iMac that came with a set of Beats Solo 2s for free (so awesome, by the way). And even if I needed the old jack, it comes with an adapter inside the box!

Why is the media giving it so much attention and critics continuously harping on it? Could it be they are tired of covering Samsung phones that are actually BLOWING UP?
