  • Apple culture hinders recruitment and talent retention efforts, report says

As one might say in England, "what a lot of bollocks".

This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, guys. Who gives a royal flush what these self-interested parties are griping about Apple? Honestly.
But what if it's true? I have a friend (another scout dad -- I've backpacked with him for years) who worked for several years at Apple in Austin, as an electrical engineer. He said that Apple is a miserable place to work. The yelling, long hours, and upper management pressure were common themes. He hated it, and is much happier at ARM now.

  • T-Mobile confirms Binge On tech slows streaming video data speeds

It's been interesting for me. I have unlimited data on T-Mobile, and have not noticed any throttling at any time. My oldest son is on this plan with me, and for some reason, our data usage has dropped significantly. We used to combine for about 40GB of data per month, and now we're at around 10GB with the same (excessive) usage. I'm not sure how to account for it, but carefully examining video quality through Amazon, Google Play (Youtube), and Netflix, it's clear that I'm getting at least 720p over LTE from all sources.

For folks on a budget plan, I think Binge On is a pretty sweet deal. That said, for only $100/month, we have two phones on an unlimited everything plan that is tough to beat, especially since we really use that data. I'll be adding my daughter to the plan for $10/month this spring.

  • Another F for Alphabet: U.S. Marines reject Google's other android as too loud to use

Way to miss the point of DARPA as well as Alphabet's involvement in BD's military business. What really happened is that Google leveraged tens of millions of dollars of DARPA investment to fund their own private robotics technology.

DARPA failures are part of the plan, and part of their success. I'm not sure how one would miss that point. I have engineers on three teams transitioning projects out of DARPA into production, and all three are barely recognizable after the necessary changes needed to support the warfighters in actual use. My teams also put several DARPA projects on the shelf today, as they were not suitable for transition, but my company gets to retain all of the tech we developed, and we are actively selling it now.
