Altman beats OpenAI board and returns as CEO after stormy exit
gatorguy said:planetary paul said:Obviously the intention was to kill off the company. Some serious litigation is in order methinks.
Apparently what Mr Altman was telling the board left a few things out, not a surprise considering what has been reported about his personality.
And for those of you who think that MSFT will immediately profit from this need to be aware that the computing power to run LLMs is so ridiculously expensive that their investment is going to take awhile to come to fruition.
I think white collar jobs are going to be under threat this time around unlike the automation efficiencies that affected blue collar work. Interesting times. -

Apple's iPhone parts pairing is making the company billions
I have news for the NY Times and all the right to repair advocates in this forum but new model cars often require specialized diagnostic software and expertise available only to dealers so cars are not a great example as quoted in their article.
But you know in these times when everyone is starring at their phones, no one can think of anything but Apple and iPhones and App stores.
I have used iPhones only since 2007 and have never had a device fail on me (with the exception of a single battery expansion which was repaired).
The bottom line is that if not abused they are incredibly durable due to their build quality. My friends that use other devices have produced much more e-waste.
In all cases I have handed my used iPhones down to family members or resold them on eBay after two to three years of use. -

Apple pauses iOS 18, macOS 15 work to stomp bugs now
It seems like this article has touched a nerve to reveal something we all have been noticing. I used to tell people that the MacOS and iOS was more stable than it’s competition but Apple software has been much more buggy as of late. I still think there are other compelling reasons to change namely—build quality and the battery life of Apple Silicon
My old cheese grater running High Sierra that I use as a cheap version of a media server to my AppleTV has more stable software (though granted the Apple ecosystem was much more simple back then) and the old gal really puts out the heat.
