  • Qualcomm hints 5G iPhone coming in 2020, analysts say

There was plenty of hype for 5G this year in 2019, however it was all meaningless, as 5G wont mean anything until Apple enters the game.

Don't take your local situation for the rest the world.  In some countries 5G has really taken off.  In these countries there will be a lot of 5G phones sold in the upcoming Christmas period.

  • Spotify says subscriber growth now doubles Apple Music

I don't see how Spotify's metrics are relevant.

For one, everybody (including Apple) knows that Apple Music is 90% for the Apple ecosystem users.

Those, if one includes all macOS/iOS users, are still much smaller compared to Android and Windows users.

And Apple doesn't much care about those others (even if they will e.g. make a client for Android, like they have a Windows iTunes).

So I don't think Apple expects to get the non-iOS/macOS part of the market, and thus doesn't expect to ever be larger than someone that does...
Knowing how many iPhone users have a premium or free Spotify subscription is an important metric for Apple.  And if I look around I see that in Europe these numbers are very high.  Of the more than 100 people which I know to have an iOS device, only 2 of them have an Apple Music subscription.  The rest, including myself is using Spotify.

    Couple of things:
    1. I notice the story makes no mention of profit. Has Spotify finally made one?
    2. They’re comparing their “paid” subscribers (most HEAVILY subsidized and don’t directly pay anything, see various promotion partners ... not sure most of that group would pay if they actually had to) to old figures from Apple (four months ago).

They’re still ahead in “paid” subs (unless you look more closely), but still losing money, not paying artists, still in court about that, and don’t have a plan to turn that around. How do you have 100+M subscribers and not turn a profit?
What is wrong about Spotify having a lot of promotion partners.  Apple has also been using this schema as well.
Profit in Q3 is 54 M Euro.   So your comments are outdated.

  • Man gets four years in prison for $1.5M Apple Pay fraud

I work a few days a month as an external fraud analyst for a European bank that has Apple Pay.   As all European banks, the bank is very strict on security, resulting in low fraud figures.   (This cannot be said of all US banks)

The last few months the bank has seen an important rise of fraud cases due to phishing attacks targeted at Apple Pay users.  After investigation,  we detected that a lot of Apple Pay users are convinced that Apple Pay is 100% secure and that they as a consequence are quite sloppy when receiving phishing emails.

Of course Appe Pay is secure.  In fact it is a virtual chip based credit card and inherits the security characteristics of the latter.  But this does not mean that phishing fraud cannot happen.  So one still has to be vigilant, even with Apple Pay.

  • Apple reportedly aims to integrate own 5G modem in iPhone by 2022

Hopefully, Apple is patient enough to wait till its own modem provides functional advantages over Qualcomm modems -- rather than rushing it just to escape from Qualcomm's greasy, greedy clutches,.
If Apple would be able to catch up in 2022, it would be a real achievement.

Remember that the Qualcomm development teams are not sitting there waiting until Apple has something available. The state of its 5G chip in 2022 will be much more advanced than it is today
