  • Apple touts rave iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro reviews

    yuck9 said:
Continuing what has become an annual tradition, Apple on Tuesday collected and republished choice no excerpts from early iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro reviews in a bid to drum up interest ahead of a public launch on Friday.

Interestingly, this year's selection of plaudits are mainly pulled from popular websites including TechCrunch, Engadget and Mashable, not the typical assortment of major print publications. The Wall Street Journal does have a cameo, however, in a leading animated GIF that cycles through laudatory clips gleaned from posted reviews.

Apple's picks are expectedly glowing. The company elected to focus on commentary about iPhone's camera features like Night mode, as well as a new ultra-wide angle lens offered up on both iPhone 11 and 11 Pro.

Apple also plucks quotes touting battery life, a result of energy efficient technology baked in to the A13 Bionic processor and, on iPhone 11 Pro, the Super Retina XDR OLED screen. The A13's performance gets nods from HardwareZone Singapore and Malaysian paper the New Strait Times.

A sampling of Apple's collection of quotes:

    Tom's Guide

"The iPhone 11 represents a big leap forward for photography, thanks to a new ultra-wide lens and a new Night mode for better low-light performance. Apple has also upped the ante with greater video-recording quality while also delivering superb battery life."

    Refinery29

"The best new feature here is Night mode, which pretty impressively brightens dark photos it's automatic in low-light settings. You can even use it as a flashlight. When you shine it at something dark, the screen will display it with more light than you can see with your own eye."

    The Verge

"[iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max] are some of the most well-balanced, most capable phones Apple -- or anyone -- has ever made. They have excellent battery life, processors that should keep them relevant for years to come, absolutely beautiful displays and a new camera system that generally outperforms every other phone, which should get even better with a promised software update later this fall."

    TechCrunch

"iPhone 11's Night mode is great. It works, it compares extremely well to other low-light cameras and the exposure and color rendition is best in class, period."

Continuing the PR blitz, CEO Tim Cook retweeted a video of Tokyo shot on iPhone 11 Pro by photographer Andy To. A 4K version of the same short movie was shared in Apple's press release.

Apple goes on to remind customers that they can preorder iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro through Apple.com. Orders are scheduled to arrive on Friday, Sept. 20, the same day the smartphones and Apple Watch Series 5 models are due to go on sale at brick-and-mortar Apple stores and authorized resellers.
Last few days all I've read is how great the camera is. Ok, It's good/great. Why not review how other things work. How about the number one reason we buy them. The phone. How is it, Reception problems, etc. The camera is not the only reason people buy it. How is the Wi-Fi speed ?

Who cares? The phone app is the least important feature.

  • Prominent Apple apps in App Store search results face more criticism

So?   That seems right to me:  If I am looking for an app -- say a spreadsheet program -- I will want to see what Apple has to offer more than anything else.
If someone is searching for a spreadsheet app the first one that should pop up is Excel.

Wrong! When you buy an iPhone and it says it comes with “Numbers” many people will search for it driving it up the list.
It does if you search for Numbers. If you search for spreadsheet Google Sheets comes up first, then Excel. Which I guess makes sense as I forgot there is no free version of Excel.
All the results may differ from what they were 30 days ago. At one point a few weeks back if you searched for "Music" the first 8 results were all Apple apps, with Spotify for example kinda buried down at #11 I think, tho that may not be 100% accurate.

In any event Apple has made a couple of changes since July besides the grouping by developer tendency which was claimed to be one reason for Apple apps surfacing so prominently.
If I worked in Apple public relations or communications I’d be telling Tim Cook Apple is starting to look reactionary, like they’re only doing things because they got caught or were outed by the media. Take this story for example. One gets the feeling Apple was alerted it was coming so they made changes because of it. And then of course the Siri changes that were announced after the Guardian published its story. Apple making changes after they got caught doing things that weren’t disclosed to users. It’s not a good look. Especially for a company that prides itself on being different/more ethical than every other tech company.
For you everything Apple does is either illegal, immoral, unethical, anti-competitive, anti-consumer, so your opinion is of little value to anyone except those who thrive on negativity.
And for you Apple NEVER does anything wrong and is always better and right no matter what.

It's their app store they can do what they want.
Screw you. The iPhone would be NOTHING without the hard work and amazing apps developers have made. With ONLY Apple apps it would suck.

A well known leather case manufacturer already has their website updated well before Tuesday's event.  Very surprised to see this, thought they and other case manufacturers would have an NDA maybe ?    They are showing iPhone 11,  iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max with some descriptions, no pictures yet.
I don’t believe Apple shares anything with any case manufacturers. It’s all just guesswork based on speculation and these same rumors.
So how am I able to buy a case for the brand new phone on day one from several different manufacturers? It’s impossible to have them made and shipped and ready for sale in a week.

It can’t hurt to make the steams available from other locations. My only concern is with watching from YouTube is the incessant ads every few minutes. If that’s what going to happen with the live stream Apple should just make it available as a replay.
FWIW I don't remember the last time I saw a YouTube ad.
I see them so many times I lost count.  I always try to click off the ads.
I never get ads on YouTube.
