  • Upcoming M4-based Mac mini rumored to replace USB-A with more USB-C ports

I still use USB-A. I have a couple of devices that are still using the old port. Yes USB-C is the future and anything I buy going forward will be using C. But I’ve got backup drives, a mic, camera, and the adaptor for my Logitech mouse that need the old port. I’m not going to throw them away until I have to.
Or get some A-C adapters during the transition.  I bought a 4-pack and now only buy C cables.

  • US fights Canada over new tech tax that could cost Apple billions

If Apple wants to assert its right to a piece of third party transactions in Europe because it owns the platform, then countries can claim their right to a piece of their citizens transactions.
    It cuts both ways.

  • The Mac mini doesn't sell in huge volumes, but is a crucial part of Apple's ecosystem

I’m waiting for the new Mini to come out to replace my 27” intel iMac. I don’t want to drop $3k+ on a Mini and Studio Display, but I want retina scaling and I REALLY don’t want a 24” screen. So what’s a guy to do?
The absence of the 27” iMac is likely driving more Mac Mini sales. I also suspect most will go outside the Apple ecosystem for a monitor rather than shell out for the Studio Display. Lost opportunity for Apple.
I also was coming from a 27” iMac.

I tried a cheaper display but I couldn’t stand the downgrade from the display in my iMac. So I sprung for the Studio Display. It seems like it should be less expensive, yet obviously I was willing to pay.
Yeah, me too. Couldn’t stand the thought of a display downgrade from my 5k iMac. Got a cool 3D printed stand to attach the Mac mini vertically to the ASD stand. Neat and easily movable too.
I was also hoping to mount the Mini to the back of the display. Hopefully with the new smaller form factor, this will be even easier and cleaner to mount.

… or they come out with a 27”+ iMac. One can dream.

I think that this practice by Apple is misleading and not transparent.  It's sleazy marketing.
It’s not misleading and it is totally transparent, with every credit and debit shown. Basic accounting.  Yes, you have to look at it a little more closely, but the author told you exactly why it has to be done this way. So as not to buy the iPad, spend the gift card, then return the iPad. If Apple were to deduct $100 from the value of the iPad upon its return, they’d be committing fraud.
