  • Apple cracks down on lending apps after deepfake nudes threat

Just showed this article to my wife. She laughed and joked that she’d be ok with it as long as the model they deepfaked her onto was slimmer than her.

  • EU regulators ramp up probe into NFC tech at core of Apple Pay

Do credit card companies make it so you can use the nfc chips in their cards work with other companies?
    I think not
Yes, they do. Do some research, please.
I worked in a Canadian bank for 17 years. There’s no way they’d let the NFC chip on their Visa card put a transaction through for another Bank’s Visa.

Apple does allow this. But it’s only under  their terms, with their privacy and security model. And yes, they take a commission for it and don’t pass personal information about the transaction back to the bank. Good! That’s how I, the customer, want it.  And that’s why I chose to set up my card in Apple Pay. And my bank is still making a ton of money from it. I am the customer to the merchant, the bank, and Apple. I WANT it this way.

  • Apple and Google are working together to reduce AirTag & other tracker stalking

This will turn into a cat and mouse game in the end. They will think they're better and then criminals will figure out another way. Criminals while dumb, are also very smart at the same time and have time to sit around all day and figure this shit out.
As they say:  The problem with trying to make something idiot proof is that we grossly underestimate the ingenuity of idiots.

  • Florida wants Apple & Google to label apps made outside US

The sodium content on the side of your cereal box is already there. You just have to go to the developers website to see country of origin. What is being asked for is more akin to the giant warning labels on cigarette packs. They’re asking for big up-front labels with country of origin. And as was mentioned before, what exactly is ‘country of origin’ ? Is it just the headquarters of the company?  Or where the programmers were sitting when they wrote the code. Or the nationality of those code writers?

  • Apple's MagSafe is foundation for new Qi2 wireless charging standard

I could see a world where MagSafe could theoretically replace lightning ‘if’ the receiving hardware could fit in a super thin iPhone. But the  EU standard of USB-C has now killed that.

Qi2 is, as you said, wireless. MagSafe won’t let me drop my phone on a pad in my car and have it charge without having to fuss with wires and replace them periodically because the connection wears out or the wire gets frayed.
