As long as I'm not disappointed and dismayed, I'll be pleased and relieved. Though I suspect the price will leave me shocked and incredulous. -
Thousands of Amazon workers are listening in on Echo audio, report says [u]

If “hate” speech becomes illegal it’s just a matter of time until someone at Amazon, or the AI, takes a joke out of context and the police are knocking on your door.
Well, excuse the hell out of me. I thought sharing opinions and observations was the whole point of having a forum in the first place.redraider11 said:In reality though no one cares what you think about it.

I'm trying to decide whether I care about this or not. My bank records our telephone conversations, and those are much more detailed than an Alexa or Siri request, and are directly associated with my personal information. This seems pretty benign.
The only real risk to me is embarrassment, but it's not likely someone I know personally is ever going to hear me saying or doing something I'd wish they hadn't. It's true that I don't want an Amazon contractor hearing my passwords or financial codes, but in the absence of a way for them to determine exactly who I am, even that information is essentially useless to them. -
Apple's T2 chip makes a giant difference in video encoding for most users

Yeah, that's a question (and possible fear) I have as well. I'd love someone with some more video knowledge than myself to weigh in on such things. I haven't been disappointed with the output so far, but I haven't compared it in any good way with alternatives. If there is some problem, I guess that would be good to know before I fill my video library with T2-encoded HEVC stuff. Heh.
Through lots of training and experience, I'll hear things in a recording most people won't notice. That means what I consider "good quality" will differ from what's good to someone else. Does it matter that a particular flaw exists if one doesn't notice it, or at least isn't bothered by it?
On the other hand, you may become more critical with time. I now notice flaws in transcodes I did five or six years ago that apparently didn't bother me at the time I did them. Maybe that means one should err on the side of higher quality as a hedge against more sophisticated perception in the future.
The bottom line: if in doubt, increase the bit rate! -

As to the 17", MBP, meh. If it's mostly a larger version of my new 15" (which is as heavy, if not slightly more so than the 2016 model), it'll be way too heavy to carry around.
